I live in Downtown Memphis. I write a blog about my life in Downtown Memphis. I have the best group of friends a guy could ask for, and we all hang out at various watering holes in the area. More likely than not you can find me at the Flying Saucer drinking Dos Equis Special Lager, Leinenkugel Sunset Wheat or one of my other favorite beers. When not at the Saucer I can be found at the Red Rooster, Hoop's Bar/EP Delta Kitchen, McGuinness, Hollywood Disco (Raiford's), Earnestine & Hazel's, Calhoun's, or Big Foot Lodge. I try to post a lot of useful information about upcoming Downtown events in the blog, but there are also plenty of drunk posts in there. Oh and June is a special theme month in my blog, "Tube Top Month." For some reason people read the thing. It took first place in the 2007 Memphis Flyer "Best Of" poll for the Memphis blog category.
I'm co-founder, with my friend Mike King (see my top friends), of a Google forum called Handling-Panhandling. There we discuss the aggressive panhandlers who work the streets of Downtown. The Center City Commission and the police monitor the discussion there. Let me stress that the forum is NOT an anti-homeless forum. It's important to separate the status of homelessness from the behavior of aggressive panhandling.
Since November 2007 I've been a web developer with a New York/Memphis startup company that offers background checking services via a Web interface. It's a very fun, laid-back culture and I really enjoy it there. And it's a block from where I live, so the morning commute is nice. The worst I have to worry about is tripping over a pigeon on my way to work. I develop in ASP.NET/C#;. Before that I did VB.NET development for the City Schools and a company that does rebate programs for large corporations. Back in the day I taught Computer Literacy and math courses at the University of Memphis.
I'm a member of the Rapscallions, a trivia team that dominates the Flying Saucer's Trivia Bowl every Tuesday night; the Ques Brothers, a Memphis in May BBQ Fest team that nearly placed in the Top 10 in the shoulder category in its first year of existence; and the Sunday brunch crew, which convenes at either Majestic Grille or Dan McGuinness Pub on Sunday mornings. I used to be active in Mpact Memphis and even served on their board for a couple of years.
Anything else you want to know, just ask.
