Peter Tickell is a fiddle/violin player from Newcastle in the North East of England. Having started playing at the tender age of 6 (much against his will) he soon began to enjoy going to orchestra instead of footy (the two fell, tragically, on the same night). He took part in many competitions as a wee nipper, and his fervent practice led to him winning all Northumbrian opens on three consecutive occasions, reaching the final of the 2001 BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award and the semi-final of BBC Young Musician of the Year. Having trained as a classical violinist under the tutelage of Kyra Humpheys, Martin Hughes & Bradley Creswick and been strongly influenced by the music of Northumberland, Scotland and his mother's heartland Ireland, his musical influences are varied, eclectic and unorthodox. Aged 16, he joined the Kathryn Tickell Band and decided he wanted to play the fiddle full time, instead of pursuing a career on the right wing for Blyth Spartans. At 17 he was appointed leader of Young Sinfonia orchestra, and has since had the pleasure of playing with such luminaries as Sting, Evelyn Glennie, Peatbog Faeries, The Unusual Suspects, Fraser Fifield, Mr Mcfall's Chamber, Kris Drever, Baghdaddies, Jon Redfern, Colin Steele's 'Stramash' & Lindisfarne's Billy Mitchell amongst others. His greatest living memory is being smiled at once by Peter Beardsley and his most embarrassing moment was thinking his little pecker (anag. Peter Tickell) was evident during a gig. Fortunately for everyone involved, it wasn't.

As gospellers have said, Beneath signalling skies, On land dusty to tread, A trough in a stable Was the strawy first-bed Of a divine baby - The forgiving Godhead.
A season for new hope - There then and here now; The yuletide of goodwill - There then and here now.
In respect of this chance, Beneath bright or dark skies, Faith's the star that we glance Attending Christ's churches And trying to enhance, With singing and ritual, Our God-loving stance.

Hi, Choonz have entered an Irish music battle of the Bands competition online Youtube Link
The winners get 5 nights playing at the Monte Carlo Casino in Las Vegas. This would obviously be quite nice. Seriously though, we would really love this opportunity and this would give us the publicity needed to start our career as a touring band.
WE NEED YOUR VOTE!! Please take the time to forward this to some people in your address book. Voting ends in a few days so please don't delay. It only takes a minute to register your vote! Anyway, enough grovelling from us. To vote for us Click Here and select Choonz. Cheers!

Poem 162 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): TEES TO TYNE: FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SUMMER 2001
Where traditions are not so rare; Sea, country and works scent the air; A multitude of monuments, Planted tubs and patterned pavements.
The longish pedestrian malls; The remnants of defensive walls; Historic buildings are a gauge Of the respect for heritage.
Wheat, rape and pines in the fields; Estuaries guarded by shields; Long sandy beaches and wide scenes; Romantic-ruin go-betweens.
Rivers in parts licked by trees, Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries, And crossed by practical delights - Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.
Fine churches headed at Durham; Football kits ad infinitum; Kept castles - one for study; Masonry behind masonry.
And, with moulding-works out that way, It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?
Is Jackie Milburn not dead?? Or am a wrang?? Or a meringue? Anyway - 'Jackie Milburn played football for Newcassel town, The pride of aal England, 3 caps tiv'is crown. And 3 wembley medals aal glittering gold. the great centreforward we'll ever uphold.... Oh Jackie, Oh Jackie how proud eyes would gleam, and hearts that were happy...something something something...' Can't remember the rest. (from my vast repertoire of obscure football songs) How was the footie tonight anyway? Did you go in the end?
Brussels is great thanks. I'm just getting settling down and getting me some gigs and employment. I'm missing Newcastle of course and especially our nights in Wingrove together. How are you doing without me? I hope Ash is not quite the replacement for the Rushmeister!!! ha ha Anyhow, when are you coming to Brussels to see me? Take care xxx
Hey Peter. I arrived in Edinburgh on Aug 16th and was excited to see you were playing with the Peatbog Faeries that night - went to buy my ticket, but it was sold out! Hope everything is going well anyway, let me know if you're playing round Yorkshire soon, I'd love to come and listen. Tessa x
