Visionary artist Phetus has defined the intersection of art, culture and clothing for more than a quarter of a century. His first foray into the world of street art began at an early age, when he was a child, he would write on the walls of neighborhood building in Long Island.
Inspired by the 1980’s rebellion of hip-hop’s emerging scene and his passion for artists such as Led Zeppelin and Public Enemy coupled with the art of Robert Crumb, Dr Seuss and SEEN. Phetus’ work developed into an expression of dichotomy, counter culture and irreverence.
His creations are a visual articulation of the merging of cultural divides: street and fine art, hip-hop and rock, black and white.
Phetus’ iconic tag, the “Phat Phace" has been infamously scrawled across the globe, having traveled extensively throughout various foreign lands. Phetus’ Phat Phace was the first time a street artist used a logo as a tag, rather than painting a name in a stylized manner.
His artistic influence has been seen on the clothing and sneakers of multi platinum record artists such as Ludacris, LL Cool J, The Game and has been subversively infused into the everyday products such as comic books, clothing and toy designs.
An Artist whose versatility goes unmatched, Phetus is as comfortable with traditional paint on canvas as he is with computer design. From his early works throughout Long Island, to the clothes he customized for some of hip-hop’s most notorious names to his gallery shows, his works have grown extensively since the line drawings he left on his neighborhood walls.
More to come from Phetus with his incredible passion, talent and eye for a marketable product.
