Depois de extensa turnê de divulgação do primeiro disco (Já Não Há Tempo/2005), que firmou a banda no cenário brasileiro e rendeu apresentações na Europa, o Phonopop voltou ao estúdio em 2008 para gravar o segundo álbum. Ainda sem título e em fase final de produção, o disco aponta novos caminhos, em parte já revelados com o lançamento dos singles Puro Veludo e O Náufrago, ambas disponíveis para download na revista eletrônica Senhor F (pelo projeto Senhor F Virtual).
O grupo ampliou o leque sonoro no novo repertório, abrindo espaço para a influência de grupos e cantores como Stone Roses, Foo Fighters, Bob Dylan e Elliot Smith. Músicas como Polaróides, Fogo Amigo, Ninguém e 45 Rotações carregam diferenças entre si, mas não abandonam a essência do Phonopop: a melodia. O novo álbum deve sair no final do ano.
In 2001 phonopop wangled their way into the most prestigious rock festival in Brazil (porão do rock/ rock basement, in brasília) by handing in a demo with 4 songs to the event's organizer a week before the gig and wham bam five years later they have recorded their airwave loving record 'Ja Nao Ha Tempo' (there is no longer time)
Aptly named and Brasilia born Fernando Cruz started the band after living in London for three years. Once formed, the band played every festival in Brazil with bands like Autoramas and won awards for best demo awarded by Midsummer Madness and later competing with established artists like Otto for best record at the Premio Dynamite in 2003.
Phonopop are inspired by their quest for the ultimate song, the perfect pop melodythey have been written about a lot in Brazilian press and are often compared to a Brazilian version of the Doves, the Kinks with os Mutantes, the Beatles, Elliot Smith and Chico Buarque song writing influences. They have played with bands like O Rappa to audiences of up to 40,000 and popped up stages all over Brazil.
