I still love comics--it's not just a job! I'm also teaching myself illustraion and audio and video editing on my computer. I love listening to audio books and I collect movie and television props. I'm a pathetic nerd.
Music
R.E.M., Robyn Hitchcock, Elvis Costello, XTC, Lou Reed, The Velvet Underground, The Who, Teenage Fanclub, Velocity Girl, Luna, Dean & Britta, Pete Townshend, The Replacements, Paul Westerberg, The Posies, Jon Auer, Jason Falkner, The Divine Comedy, Cornershop, Yo La Tengo, X, Pulp, Fountains Of Wayne, Ivy, Imperial Teen. I'm also still into my teenage favorites, Led Zeppelin, and I love lots of 70's power pop stuff--some Sweet, Raspberries, earlier Cheap Trick, Badfinger.
Movies
Star Wars(and by that I mean STAR WARS, the one from 1977), and in no particular order, The Royal Tenenbaums, most of the Alien series, some of the Star Trek series, Young Frankenstein, Planet Of The Apes(and by that I mean--oh, nevermind), Boogie Nights, Galaxy Quest, Serenity, Logan's Run, Flash Gordon, Walkabout, This Is Spinal Tap, High Fidelity, Life Of Brian
Television
Star Trek, The Venture Bros., Homicide, Firefly, Wonderfalls, The Tick(the live-action one, believe it or not), BSG(both), Space Above And Beyond, Deadwood, Millennium, The X-Files, Kolchak: The Night Stalker, The Simpsons, Futurama, and I'll watch any good documentary on just about any subject. Most recent pleasant surprise on TV: Supernatural
Books
The Stars My Destination by Alfred Bester, American Gods and Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman, most Tim Powers books, quite a bit of Stephen King's work(especially the Gunslinger series, Gerald's Game, Salem's Lot and the non-genre stuff), The Egyptologist by Arthur Phillips, Atonement by Ian McEwan, The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold, Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill, My Dark Places by James Ellroy. I'll also read just about anything by Stuart Kaminsky, Ian Rankin, Michael Connelly, James Lee Burke. As for comic books, the Tintin series by Herge will probably always be my favorite, followed by The Micronauts by Mantlo & Golden, 2001 Nights by Yukinobu Hoshino, and the Fantastic Four by Lee & Kirby. Other favorites from the past: Alex Raymond's Flash Gordon(especially the later work), From Hell by Alan Moore, anything by Michael Golden, Frank Miller's two runs on Daredevil and his Ronin series, Walt Simonson's Thor, the Keith Giffen Legion Of Superheroes(any one of his runs, but especially the first), Paul Smith's work on Dr. Strange and X-Men, American Flagg by Howard Chaykin, Twilight by Chaykin & Garcia-Lopez, anything by Stuart Immonen. Recent series or graphic novels I have enjoyed/am enjoying: Ex Machina by Vaughan & Harris, Planetary by Ellis & Cassaday, Top Ten by Moore & Cannon/Ha
About me: I draw comic books for a living. I've always wanted to do this and have had the good fortune to have worked on books like Batman, the Justice League, and the Legion Of Superheroes for DC Comics; a Star Wars series for Dark Horse(Splinter Of The Mind's Eye); and most recenty I co-created and drew a couple of great series for Wildstorm Productions, Tom Strong(with Alan Moore) and Ocean(with Warren Ellis).
Plankton Studios is the workspace I use and share with my wife Xan wherever we happen to be living, which is currently a great apartment in Columbus, OH. It's where I do all of my drawing(except when I'm on the road sketching furiously away at comic conventions) and where I spend most of my time. It's full of items and objects that can be used as inspiration or reference for work--or just for play: books, comics, computers, reference material, movie props, photos and various kinds of art and art supplies.
Who I'd like to meet: Alan Moore is the only person I can think of right now...I worked from his scripts for years but never met him. Lou Reed, maybe...? I think either would be a little intimidating! I've actually been lucky enough to meet quite a few of the people I admire or find fascinating: R.E.M., Robyn Hitchcock, Elvis Costello from pop music; Michael Golden, Walter Simonson, Al Williamson, and countless others from comics.
Hey - hope all is well with you. Just to let you know I have re-uploaded one of my tunes called All In The Know to my profile. If it's your first time hearing the tune, hope you like!
Thanks for the friendship! I've written a comic that is competing on Zuda this month, and I'm working hard at becoming Zuda (DC Comics') first female lead to win the competition. If you want a shot at one of two Pat's or Geno's gift certificates, while helping to raise money for the Police Survivor's Fund, then read and follow the strip below. Clicking on the strip will bring you right to the Zuda page. Thanks for your support!
Hey, thanks for the add, Chris! For a quick laugh, check out my lil' cartoon (based on the web comic) about a guy who reads moronic screenplays for movie studio bosses ... and then weep for him. http://www. studioreaderstan. com/
hi how are you doing? your page is looking slick! anyway, i just grabbed some cool new ringers off www.singingcell.info for FREE! they have the tightest stuff!
The New Midnighter issue was very well done. Later I'll tell you on somethingg I picked up by looking at the art, and then was right about after I read the story.
I just finished watching the first two Bourne movies, and the actors and expressions they gave, made me want to see you do a adaptation of the story. :-)
