Poitín play Celtic music in all its shapes and forms from haunting Breton melodies to raunchy traditional Irish songs. They've performed at festivals across Europe in Italy, France, Poland and Germany and the Czech Republic. The latest cd, Hot Days (2006) features a daring mix of saxophone, didgeridoo and more traditional instruments to create a sparkling collection of songs and tunes, some traditional, some new, all suffused with Poitín magic.
They formed in Pilsen, CZ, in 1996 and have released 3 albums to date on their own label and are also included on 4 compilation albums (2 released by Popron, CZ and 2 by Mage Records in the U.S.).
The Hot Days album has been entirely remixed and released by DSPI to create a kaleidoscopic soundscape of electro celt experimentalia. Listen here
Have a listen to this - a collaboration between Poitin and death metal band Mortal Destiny!

The first album, 'Poitín' was released in 2000 and featured a very traditional collection of tunes including the 'Congress Reel' and songs such as 'Spanish Lady' as well as lesser known Breton and English songs. The second album, 'De la Basse Bretagne' was eventually released in 2003 and was a tribute to the talents of the band's French singer, Neige Pruvost on her return to her birthplace. It consists mainly of French and Breton songs and tunes and features Dan Eberle on double bass. There's a lovely traditional Czech folk song, 'Lida, Lidunka' at the end of the album in acknowledgement of the band's own roots. Poitín were pleased to be invited to contribute to Popron's 'Best of Celtic Music I and II' compilation albums and Marc Gunn's 'Victims of Irish Music' and 'The Best of the Irish and Celtic Music Podcast' which have had excellent reviews on CD Baby.
Poitín feature continuously in the Soundclick music charts top ten, Congress Reel and Laird O'Cockpen both reaching number one and Congress is rarely out of the top ten. (http://www.soundclick.com/poitin )
The band host a regular Thursday night session in Pilsen at the U Šenku pub just off the main square in Pilsen, Czech Republic, which is fast becoming a legendary venue for new and more established performers to strut their stuff.
Hope you enjoy listening to us as much as we enjoy playing!
All the best

Hi, had a look to your video a few days ago and I'm impressed by that great music. The flutes are played very expressive and bouzouki playing as well as other instruments excellent!! If you want - listen to my new "Song for Hannah" - there are bound to be more versions soon.. Have a wonderful evening Jutta
Really like your music ... hope to meet you anytime in real life ;) Today I'll tell the guy from Klingenthal about you ... maybe it could be a possibility for you to come to Germany :)
Funny coincidence, our being online at the same time! There's a place in L.A. called McCabe's -- your band would be perfect for this venue (unfortunately I don't have any pull there -- wish I did; I did perform there once though). We've been playing mainly private parties and various festivals. Presently we're in the studio working on a new CD ("we" being my pirate band, not the Celtic band). The pirate band will also be performing at a two-day "steam punk/pirate" festival in mid-September on the Queen Mary, Long Beach; I'm sure I'll be "tweeting" reminders and links. ;) Anyway, back to your band possibly coming to the US, I'll keep my eyes and ears open -- anything's possible!
Fabulous musicianship, guys -- the tunes sound absolutely GREAT! Wish I could jam with you in person some time. Meanwhile, you've inspired me to again include "Congress Reel" in some of my own band's performances; I've always loved that tune.
(Jeremy, thanks for finding me on Twitter -- love that "rhythmic bond" between drummers!)
Aww thanks guys! Really appreciate the good words. Next year, we're hoping to do a tour to the east coast and if the stars align and the gods smile upon us, maybe even get over to your side of the world.
Great being friends here. Love your music. Too bad you're not local, would love to see/hear you guys play live. By the way, thanks for the compliments on my costumes and drums (the deep shell one has a cutout on its side -- my arms aren't really THAT long!).
