Polydrone is a dutch metalband comprised of 5 motivated musicians: Wouter (drums), Niels (guitars), Alex (guitars), Jeff (vocals) and Tim (bass). The idea to start a band spawned from a couple of jamming sessions Niels and Wouter had early 2007. Soon the two of them found out there was good chemistry between them and after a few songs were written they felt the need to find a vocalist. So that’s where their good friend Jeff stepped in and at this point the base was formed for this fun loving metal-band. The three recorded their first demo ‘Retrolution’ in a luxurous villa during a weekend of beer, gaming, beer, lack of sleep, beer, headaches, beer and Dutch delicacies like ‘bitterballen’. Their DIY debut-demo ‘Retrolution’ (Everything from the recordings to the photography was done by themselves) was released in November ‘08 and instantly received very positive feedback. The name ‘Retrolution’ and the fitting artwork theme was chosen because of their love for 8-bit retro-gaming and to stand out of the oversaturated new wave metal-core crowd.
Now it was time to find the right musicians with the same ideas, devotion and geekness to bring this band to the next level. After a few auditions they found Tim to be the perfect bass-player with his broad musical experience and the same cheesy jokes as the rest of the band and Alex to be their much needed guitar hero II with his tight ass guitar playing and because he knows how to build private jets.
With the completion of the band in September ‘08 the writing of new material boosted and resulted in a Radio performance in December ‘08 and their first gigs early ‘09. Because of their tight and energetic live performances, Polydrone was the only metalband who made it to the finals at ‘Het geheim van Starsound’ leaving 20 bands behind. Meanwhile ‘Retrolution’ received very positive reviews and a DIY videoclip was shot for the song Awakening which will be released soon. This was all in a very short timespan so 2009 promises to be a great year for Polydrone.
Because a lot of new good songs were written it was time to take the next step and 4 new songs were recorded in the ‘IJlandstudio’s’ in Amsterdam. The new EP is called ‘/2’ (pronounce: ‘Divide by two’) and is released in May ‘09. ‘/2’ has recieved only positive feedback in the press which resulted in gigs in venues like Tivoli (de Helling) and an interview in the well read e-zine Lords of Metal.
Polydrone is just doing what they enjoy the most: Play metal in every aspect they can and let you go freakin’ apeshit on their no-nonsense songs and performance. So keep an eye out for Polydrone!

...In welke stijl Polydrone ook speelt er blijft constant een groove in de muziek. Ideaal om live te spelen dus. En ook op album werkt het erg aanstekelijk, de mix van genres verveeld geen seconde en de vier nummers zijn om voordat je er erg in hebt. En buiten de aanstekelijkheid van de nummers moet er ook gezegd worden dat de individuele kunde van de muzikanten ook erg goed zijn......

Dit muzikale kindje is pas twee jaar oud, maar toch al verrassend volwassen... Talent met een hoofdletter T... nu heb ik ook een prachtig uitgevoerd digipack thuis gekregen... Ook de bijgeleverde info en de MySpace van de band zien er mooi en goed verzorgd uit...De lijn van de eerste demo wordt gewoon voortgezet. Sterker nog, als één en één nog steeds twee is, zouden deze twee demo's bij elkaar wel eens een mooie full-length kunnen vormen...Polydrone is gewoon klaar voor het grote werk, dat wordt bewezen met de demo /2...De mannen van Polydrone doen waar ze gewoon goed in zijn: lekker spelen. Ik hoop dat ze daar nog lang mee door kunnen gaan.

...De nummers zelf zitten goed in elkaar en zijn ook technisch heel sterk. ... met deze demo bewijzen ze dat ze goede songs kunnen schrijven ... Het zou me niet verbazen als we hier later nog goede dingen over horen. Hou ze dus in de gaten.

…Zanger Jeff heeft nu ook zijn teksten in de sleeve opgenomen en die zijn zeker de moeite van het lezen waard…Het gitaarwerk van Niels en Alex heeft net als op het debuut een zeer hoog niveau… Eigenlijk niets dan pluspunten dus. Als Polydrone zo door blijft groeien zouden we er wel eens een hele sterke speler in het Nederlandse metalcore-landschap bij kunnen krijgen…

De EP heeft de titel /2 en beukt rete hard…Ook in de andere twee nummers stijgt Polydrone boven zichzelf uit... Al met al is /2 een hele vette metalplaat van Nederlandse bodem. De samensmelting van verschillende subgenres is tot een goed uitgebalanceerd geheel geworden en de plaat blijft daardoor verassend en fris... Hier staat een dijk van een band en ik ben benieuwd of ze een full-length lang kunnen boeien.

“Wat goed is komt snel” en “je moet het ijzer smeden als het heet is” zijn twee uitspraken die zeker van toepassing zijn op het Nederlands Polydrone en hun nieuwe ‘/ 2’ … De vijf jonge mannen hebben bijna alles zelf gedaan en het resultaat mag er absoluut wezen. De uiterlijke verzorging, het spel en de productie overtreffen allemaal het niveau van de vorige demo, en ook over de songs valt wederom weinig te mekkeren…

…their combination of modern metal with melodic influences and a sometimes thrashy twist sounds very promising…Polydrone somehow manage to create a ‘sound of their own’ and that’s great in a time/scene where every band has to be labelled. It’s not the labels that we lack, it’s original bands and good releases and therefore Polydrone deserve a ‘thumbs up’

Their sound is particularly hard to describe as they integrate so many genres (seamlessly, it must be noted) together on their new EP…
The vocals are gruff, harsh metalcore screams and growls, but they have an odd sense of melody to them that drives the songs forward with aggression and urgency. The guitars provide intermittent melody through slick leads and innovative compositions… I've grown quite fond of the songs mostly because of the way their vocalist matches his growls with the crushing guitars, best shown during the "structural integrity" lyric on "Sunburn", which is a fantastic display of catchy songwriting while keeping things brootal…
…if this is what they came up with during such short notice, then I think it's fair to call these guys a promising band.,,Exciting things lay ahead in the future, hopefully.
