Drawing, Painting, Hearing cool music, Meeting awesome artists and models, Staying in practice!
Music
Expect super-fun music to be pumpin' during a Pompsicle session. No Van Morrison or Celine Dion. We always do our best to spin awesome music that helps set the mood and tone of our model's look. If we're drawing a goth girl: Bauhaus, Bjork, Tones on Tail. If we're drawing a trail-blazin' cowboy: Sons of the Pioneers, Bob Wills, etc.

Drawing People by Barbara Bradley
This book is a great resource, especially for intermediate and advanced figure drawing. Sadly most "how to draw" books only go over the steps to recreate the drawings that are in the book. Barbara Bradley emphasizes making your own observations and creating your own drawings from them (pushing the pose, editing, etc.). If you’re not sure where to start when it comes to drawing the clothed figure; if those masses of folds and creases look infinitely complex and beyond understanding, I recommend buying this book.

Pompsicle ~ Alternative Drawing Studios
People Dress Up. We Draw Them.
Dear artists and models,
Thank you for your interest in Pompsicle drawing studios. The weekly Pompsicle drawing sessions had an amazing two year run. In this relatively short time I have worked with nearly 70 different models from the Sacramento area, met countless great artists and new friends, and of course, had a lot of fun drawing what I love: cool people in fun clothes. We have also compiled and released a kick-butt collection of artwork and interviews called NAKED is Boring! (see below).
Unfortunately, due to frequent venue closures and the breakneck pace of it all, I've had to end the weekly drawing sessions for now. Special Pompsicle drawing events will still take place at very "drawable" locations like the Towe Auto Museum and I hope to begin holding large, monthly sessions at a stable, private venue when the time is right. Please watch for updates here, on Myspace.com or Facebook. In the mean time, keep drawing, modeling, making cool costumes, etc.
Your pal,
Ben Walker
NAKED is Boring! is a collection of artwork from Pompsicle: Ben Walker’s weekly alternative drawing sessions. Pompsicle showcases intriguing models in cool outfits and costumes. NAKED is Boring! is filled with sketches by Walker and many of the “regulars” who frequent Pompsicle studios. Spotlights are also cast on some of the models whose involvement makes Pompsicle drawing studios so unique.
$15. 8 1/2"x 11" full color with glossy paperback cover, 54 pages, perfect bound. Very limited edition (100). available at BenWalkerArt.com
Pompsicle isn't just about clothed figure drawing sessions anymore! Watch for special drawing events around the greater Sacramento area. We've set up live, costumed models at Towe Auto Museum and Midway antiques (in an awesome 50's kitchen set). We are also occasionally found drawing at live musical performances. We've also just released a limited edition book featuring some of the best artwork to come from Pompsicle sessions!
Is this a class?
Not really. Pompsicle is all about having the chance to practice drawing the clothed figure. It's also great to hang out and talk with other local artists. Nose through the pics and comments from our frequent artists and you'll see how much they've grown.
Do I have to sign up or register?
There is no commitment involved. Come once. Come every time. It's all good. There is just a $10 cover per session, $7 for students with I.D.
Pompsicle is created and facilitated by Sacramento artist Ben Walker
Who I'd like to meet: Artists~ Aspiring artists, students, illustrators, comic book illustrators, cartoonists, Tattoo artists, anyone who wants to draw people in cool costumes, etc.
Models~ Made a cool costume for Halloween or Comic-con and can't wait to show it off again?
Fashion Designers~ We know there are boatloads of amazing indie clothing designers and D.I.Y-ers in the Sacramento area! How about showing off your designs to a room full of artists?

As cool as Pompsicle is ;) we are rated PG-13. Please keep this in mind when requesting a Myspace friendship (and when attending a session).
