The Pousette-Dart Band earned a reputation as being one of the hardest working touring units of the 1970's and 80's. Their four albums for Capitol records earned them respect amongst a wide national audience and their peers. They toured with some of the biggest drawing tours of the period including Yes, Peter Frampton, Gary Wright, and went on to work regularly with many of their favorites including Bonnie Raitt, Little Feat, James Taylor, the Byrds and many others. Their successful run was cut short as the record business took a decided turn and the band decided to opt out of the direction the business was heading. Jon Pousette-Dart has remained an active figure in NYC producing his latest CD's, TV specials, and film scores, all the while writing and recording with his many friends in Nashville, where the band recorded most of their Capitol releases with producer Norbert Putnam. He has remained a vital performer, writer, singer, guitarist, and producer, recently building a studio north of NYC. Keep an eye out for both Jon solo and with his band that features some of the finest players in the country.
"The
Freedom To Rock" is about artistic freedom, in this case music. Where it's
fought for in a time when big business saw it as a lucrative product, thus
stunting the growth of creativity. A tale that is rewarding although
frustrating at times with big time dreamers and those not ready for change.
"Writing that rocks as hard as the music that's integral to the story." - Christine Ohlman
