Protos was initially active between 1977 and 1984. Then the band members
went their separate ways to build careers and have families. As a result, we took a 22-year break before joining forces to
release both our old and new work. In 1982, we released one album entitled
One Day A New Horizon and also appeared on a compilation album sponsored by
pioneers of new musical talent around Chichester (United Kingdom), the
legendary Airship label. Recently, New Horizons music has published a live
album called Into the Mouth of the Tiger to complete the history. Their third album The Noble Pauper's Grave has just been released and is now receiving positive reviews from around the world....
So how did it all start? Rory Ridley-Duff and Steve Anscombe formed Protos
while still at school. We decided to start playing music together after our
boredom in an English lesson led to a discussion about tastes in music.
Later, Rory enrolled on a Jazz/Popular music course at the Chichester
College of Technology (in England). This proved an ideal place to find a new
drummer (Iain Carnegie) and bass player (Nigel Rippon). They gigged locally
for two years then disbanded when Rory, Iain and Nigel went to
college/university to study music. Interest in Protos's music resurfaced when Passing Decades was released. This solo album of symphonic rock album by Rory Ridley-Duff contains a mixture of original compositions and new arrangements of old Protos tracks. As a result, a small but loyal fan base in Japan drove the reissue of Protos's first album and created a viable market for new albums. Rory and Steve restarted their music writing partnership in September 2006 and plan a fourth Protos album for April 2009.
We just thought we'd send you a message to alert you about our video for our debut single Prism. We released the track from our upcoming album "To The Rest of The World" last month. It is now available via iTunes, Amazon and via SMS in the UK. Text "Track 3852" to 83262 and a reply will tell you how to download to your computer. We are obviously working hard to get up as high as possible in the charts so any help will be very much appreciated!

Dear Friends, Well, it's been six months since my abdominal surgery, and finally the music is starting to flow again. I've written two new songs "Bridge Of Shadows" and something a little different for me called "Looking Glass Man"...my first song using a Strat. I've never owned a Stratocaster before, was always a Les Paul guy (still am). But my wife promised me a new Strat if I just acted brave; and survived the surgery of course. I guessed the Fender would influence me in some "twangy way", but I never imagined it would be a Johhny Cash way, (not that I'm complaining, always kind of liked him). So if you get the chance, please stop by and give them a listen. All my very best to you, and thanks for being friends through some really tough times for me, Your friend, David

Hello My Dear Friends!
Sorry I haven't been in touch for so long, but over the winter I had major abdominal surgery, and though recovery has been slow, it has been steady and I'm starting finally to feel like my old self again. For surviving my wife bought me a new Stratocaster that I hope to include on some new songs in the very near future. I hope all is well with you and that 2009 is bringing BIG things your way. I just wanted to stop by and say I'm still alive ....literally!
All of my love and the absolute best to you and yours,
David England
