Tom Hill and Eric Joyce formed the original band while at school together in 2005. They spent all their time writing and playing music together instead of studying. Tom left just before sitting his A levels and Eric followed soon after.
Since 2005 they have changed their guitarist three times, their drummer twice and decided against keeping their keyboard player. They now feel they have the perfect line up.

Early in 2006 they met three student filmmakers and together they came up with the idea of filming the bands journey. Their teaser snippets of the footage of their story can be viewed on Vuze, MySpace, You Tube and their website.
Their first gig was in September 2006 at the Barfly in Birmingham. They were immediately asked back and became the only band to be given a four-month residency.

In 2007 Purplemelon relocated to London and Tom discovered The Troubadour Club. The Troubadour was perfect for Purplemelon. Bohemian, laid-back, classily cool and with an impressive legacy, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and Bob Dylan had all gigged there. By the Christmas of 2007, off the back of a very successful run of a dozen gigs at The Troubadour, the band started doing headline slots at Putneys famed Half Moon and a string of nights at The Rock Garden and The Soho Revue Bar.
They have since had interest from some of the worlds biggest record producers and are recording their first album with producer Paul Stacey (Black Crowes, Oasis) in June.
