The art form of Hip-Hop has produced some of the most talented musicians to preach spoken word. Since 1978, the emcee (also known as the mic controller or the master of ceremony) has elevated the sounds of music to reach from the white picket fences of the suburbs to the farms of rural areas, to the busy streets of urban cities and finally to the entire globe. In today’s era, the previous statement has lesser of a meaning as the branded image and ringtone affect have taken over popular music. The room for mic controllers and masters of ceremony has slowly diminished to the size of a microphone which is controlled by acts that have less to say and more to play. In the midst of these self attained artists focused on the next “hit” stands Miami wordsmith, QuESt, who truly embodies the goal of an emcee: to reach every fan of Hip-Hop through words and rhymes. QuESt was born on September 2nd, 1990 in Miami, Florida and resides there to this day. He began using music as an outlet at the tender age of 7 describing his first encounter with Hip-Hop: "Ever since I heard The Roots' song Baby You Got Me, I was hooked. I didn't know what it was, or what I was exactly doing but I was going to do it regardless." Since then QuESt has blossomed into an up and coming emcee by gaining critical recognition throughout the world wide web. QuESt has been featured everywhere on the internet, from 2dopeboyz.com to Hiphopgame.com to Hiphopdx.com, just to name a few of the larger publications. Although recognition on the internet was a success in it's own right he still maintains that his biggest achievement thus far was winning the Tag Records Survival Of the Freshest Tour with Jermaine Dupri. On this tour QuESt beat out 660 other emcees and took home five grand along with landing studio time and a first look deal with Jermaine Dupri himself (you can view the video on the left). His last mixtape, Distant Travels Into Soul Theory (presented by 2DopeBoyz & Illroots), was critically acclaimed among the music blog/internet world, and scanned over 25,000 downloads in less than a months time. On the tape QuESt wrote over an array of 1970's soul cuts, and chronicled a relationship gone sour from start to finish. QuESt's last major project "Broken Headphones" held as one of the hottest mixtapes on the summer, garnered a generous 30,000 free downloads. It was presented by Illroots, 2dopeboyz, & HipHopDX, and showed QuESt's diversity as an artist. QuESt is now currently working on his next project "The Reason: A Defense Mechanism" which is slated to drop first quarter of 2010. QuESt continues to make music that's honest to his heart. Look out for the Miami rookie as he will soon be the topic of all discussion when it comes to Hip Hop music.
