| Band Members | Daphmont Music… mission impossible...completed. Fueled by negative criticism, a passion for music, and a desire for perfection, Quest Rock set out to complete his aforementioned debut album. The Milwaukee, WI native was born Casey Govan on June 19, 1976 and moved to Daphne, AL at the age of 10. Early on he was influenced by gospel, R&B, and rap music. The young artist, a product of a single-parent home, soon exchanged piano lessons for street lessons. Many of his formative years were spent engaged in unorthodox activities, but Quest, who is highly intelligent and influenced by his mother's love for words, developed a gift for writing. Although he was known around his hood for rhyming, being a disc jockey just kind of fell into his lap. Influenced by artists such as Biggie, Craig Mack, Wu-tang, Tupac, Bone Thugs, and Snoop Dogg, the artist began spinning records while attending JobCorps in Tuskeegee, AL. He later moved to Atlanta where he concentrated on perfecting his craft, giving little thought to becoming a mc. He couldn't seem to escape the rhymes, however. “I ain't wanna rap.. I wanted to DJ... but I always had songs in my head, complete with the melody". Seemingly musically gifted and highly ambitious, in 2005 Quest tried his hand at producing and, as he had done with being a disc jockey, sought perfection in his craft. Largely self-taught, he began to make more professional sounding beats which he later was able to sell. In the meantime Quest was still one of the hottest college and club DJs in the area. He began working with artists such as Boss, A.yO, Fabe, L-Boogie, and Carlett to name a few. He also teamed up with DJ Fullmoon who hosted his 2005 mixtape, The Application, and The Gemini Mixtape in 2007. These works, which sold well locally, were merely a prelude to Quest's ultimate goal of producing an entire album. His determination was fueled even more by harsh criticism, injustices, and personal strife. The social consciousness, emotion, and lyricism in his rhymes garnered comments such as he doesn't sound like a "down south" rapper or his music is "too deep" for the club. These comments are exactly what set Quest Rock apart from many in the hip hop game today. Daphmont Music is largely absent of the materialism found in mainstream music. It is more of an introspective piece of art infused with killer beats that chronicles the love, life, and growth of a determined artist. With nothing more than a laptop, Quest was able to paint a vivid picture with which many can identify. Some who recognize his talent have called him "a breath of fresh air". His music has gained the attention of local on-air personality and record breaker, DJ Nick @ Nite, who has featured his single "Star". Quest Rock continues to reside in Daphne, AL and continues to DJ, write, and produce while doing shows locally to promote his debut album. In the near future, Quest plans to do shows across the United States. Although Quest Rock hopes to secure a major record deal, his main focus is on building a large fan base and making good music that goes against the grain. His current project entitled “Club Night” has already created a buzz in the southeast. “This album symbolizes lessons learned thru trial and error…. I’m ready”, Quest states… “they better get that way cause I’m ridin’ out with this one.” With the banger “Getting’ Ready” and the hood classic “For My Dogs”, there is nothing but truth in the fore mentioned statement…. STAY TUNED!!!! |
