"The Que are a unique band. They began their musical voyage investigating the massive post-rock sound oceans first charted by Godspeed You Black Emperor, Mogwai, but rather than slavishly imitating the work of these great acts, have since embarked on their own course, to part unknown, but follow the sign posts of a whole host of sonic weirdness: the drone like Neu, they whistle up the ghosts of dead soldiers like The Dirty Three and writhe around in the murk of ecstasy that new psych acts like My Cat Is An Alien and Akron Family evoke. The Que do it all and sound like nothing else in particular.
Of course, that makes it all sound a bit academic, and while the three members of The Que are certainly music nerds who spend a lot of time checking out a wide range of sounds, they are also young guys who play live and rock out; they just do it a bit differently.
The Que can mesmerize with subtle percussion that creaks like the door to a haunted house or blast along on a one chord race to oblivion. They can drone, rock and play great big cranking power chords filled with emotion that swell and ebb like the sea. They have definite songs and will also improvise. They can roll around in musical slop and stop on a dime.
It’s a band that surprise from show to show, presenting Hobart audiences with some of the most original gigs in the current scene, not that they really fit in anywhere: not indie, not punk, not anything but three young men with a bunch of ideas and the will to follow that where ever it might lead.
The Que surprise, they confound and they give you a ride in the head and the heart. It’s electric sonic rise and fall that breathes."
