Indigo Girls, Girlyman, Rachael Sage, Tracy Chapman, Sheryl Crow, James Taylor, Bob Dylan, Bright Eyes, Carly Simon, Cat Stevens, Death Cab For Cutie, Patty Griffin, Ani DiFranco, Dixie Chicks, Anna Nalick, Simon & Garfunkel, Paul Simon, and so many more...
I (seventeen year old Rachel Marie) am as sure as I can be that I have always been singing. A countless number of cassette tapes dating back to my kindergarden days are full of silly little tunes of my own creation. Since then, songs about sweeping the sidewalk and taking piano lessons evolved into cheesy ones about my strong sense of self and preteen heartbreak, which then evolved into much more poised and meaningful expressions of my personal interpretations of the world I live in.
I was born in Pittsburgh and raised in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, where I started to dream up my own brand of folk rock music early on. I started writing songs (if you can call them songs) when I was about five years old, took up playing the piano at seven, started playing original material in church at age eight, first picked up a guitar at eleven, and at fifteen, started playing at local coffeehouses.
Growing up, my ears were full of Indigo Girls, James Taylor, The Carpenters, Simon & Garfunkel, Sheryl Crow, and a little bit of Spice Girls, so it's no surprise that folk roots (and a little bit of Spice Girls) show through in my music (just kidding about the Spice Girls... for the most part).
During my sophomore year in high school, I purchased myself a Martin guitar (OMC-16E Maple) (that's Billie to you), and was booked to play my first real solo gig at the Lehigh Valley Mall in Whitehall, PA. The summer after sophomore year, I played at Liederplatz at Musikfest in Bethlehem, PA as a part of the Best of Godfrey Daniels Open Mike showcase. I have just begun to "put myself out there" in terms of my musical career, and I have no intention of stopping anytime soon. I will live and breathe music as long as I live and breathe... quite possibly longer... and I'll share music with anyone who'll to listen.
Thanks Rachel! We certainly enjoyed your show too. As I said, your guitar playing was wondeful and interested. It made your voice seem even nicer. You had a great live show too, very fun to watch.

Hey RM, if you're going to GD on Sunday night, have fun... I want to go myself, but I have to be up for work early on Sunday morning and again on Monday morning, which makes the nearly four-hour round trip to GD that night a tough task :-(
