Raging Speedhorn came together as band in the small industrial town of Corby, England. The town itself would provide the depressing backdrop to their hate filled music.
Fuelled by boredom and frustration with their surroundings, the six friends would embark on a journey that would take them to highs beyond their expectations and lows that would drive them to the brink of insanity.
The original six were brothers John and Tony Loughlin, Gareth Smith, Frank Regan, Gordon Morison and Darren Smith. They played their first show in the back room of their local pub, the Rockingham Arms, in late 1998. They would become known for their hectic, hardcore ethic of touring anywhere and everywhere. It didn’t matter if it was Gravesend or Los Angeles, Hull or Tokyo, when they took to the stage mayhem ensued.
After two years of full on touring in the UK they went into the studio to record their first full length album. They’d sold an incredible 1000 copies of a four track demo tape at shows up and down the country and their first, self titled album sold 22,000 copies in the UK alone, an astonishing amount for such an extreme piece of work.
The touring continued. And it spread to mainland Europe and even Japan. Another two years of touring lead to the recording of their second album, “We Will Be Dead Tomorrow”. The album was another success, both in Europe and in Japan, where it sold 25,000 copies.
Just when it seemed like the next, inevitable step would take them in the direction of the USA, events turned the band upside down. Record company and management problems, constant touring with little pay and excessive alcohol consumption developed cracks in the unit. Tony was the first to go, although he would continue to work with the band as part of the management team. Then on the eve of their third album, “How The Great Have Fallen”, Frank left the band.
Although the band managed to fit in their first tour of the USA with new boys Jay and Bloody Kev, guitarist and vocalist respectively, touring of the record was sparse. It looked like the end was nearing. Even more so when Darren, at the start of the writing process for the fourth album, announced he could no longer take the life that is Speedhorn, being constantly broke was indeed breaking him. Amazingly, from this Speedhorn found a new lease of life.
The band are now John and Bloody Kev on vocals, Gareth and Jay Thompson on guitar, Jay’s brother Dave on bass and Gordon on drums. The new members of the band, as has always been the case, are old friends and allies. Bloody Kev sang with UKHC legends Hard to Swallow and Dead Inside, Jay and Dave played in old touring buddies Scurge.
The line up today is stronger than ever and the new album is a massive progression from anything achieved before. It’s the sound of everything the band has experienced over the last 9 years, the soaring highs and the darkest of lows…it is truly epic.
“Before The Sea Was Built” will be released, worldwide through SPV records in the year of our Lord, 2007.

DAMNATION FESTIVAL will return to darken Leeds' doorstep on SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 22, 2008, promising to be the metal event of the year.
The festival will move into the stunning three-room venue UNIVERSITY OF LEEDS, as it continues to expand as the UK's finest independent metal showcase.
Following three sold-out festivals, capacity will increase to allow near 2,000 fans in this year to witness at least two stages of the finest talent the UK and overseas has to offer.
Organiser Gavin McInally said: "It's been a long time coming but we're delighted to finally announce the University of Leeds as the new home of the ever-expanding Damnation Festival.
"It marks a massive leap for us with three rooms now available, a bigger metal market and more space for fans.
"It goes without saying that we'll be working hard behind the scenes to put together the best bill of home-grown talent the country will see in 2008 with a few imported gems to cater for the demanding tastes of our dedicated fans. "
Since Damnation's creation in 2005, the festival has proudly hosted performances by Kreator, The Haunted, an exclusive Anaal Nathrakh outing, Kataklysm, Amen, Aborted, and Entombed.
From Raging Speedhorn, Skindred, and Sikth through a farewell Stampin' Ground performance, Akercocke and Gorerotted, the best the UK has to offer on the live arena has also cemented the festival's reputation as a highlight on the metal calendar.
Gavin added: "Damnation Festival is a rarity, in that it is a genuine metal event by fans for fans and with the continued support of our community we have managed to take another leap forward.
"In return we will do everything we can to piece together an unrivalled day of metal for as little as

Gutted to hear you are hanging your hats guys. 1st saw you in 2000 and you have been my main influence for creating music since. Good look with whatever you all do from here on and all the best guys! its been a great 10 years.
Hey guys, gutted to hear that you're calling it quits. First saw you at Ozzfest 2001, and then another 7 times since. You were always an awesome band to go and see. Met most of you at the shows and seemed like a great bunch of fellas. Good luck for the future.
Hey guys just heard the news, shocked to hear that this will be the last tour. Saw you at download and damnation festival, me and the mrs really enjoyed your stuff! pity it's coming to an end!
Hope all works out for the best in the future! best of luck!
What can I say, I am absolutely devestated to hear you are splitting up. My favourite fucking band! Have had some absolutely fantastic times while listening to your music and have on many occasion been out my tits, thrashing about in the mosh, screaming the lyrics to Dungeon Whippet and thought "this is what life is all about" :)
An old band I was in at school was basically a Speedhorn tribute act as we could play every song from the first album. We covered Thumper at our school battle of the bands in 2002, which resulted in a huge mosh pit forming and lots of chairs being flung in the air....our set was cut short as the headmaster ran onto the stage, pulled the mic from me and demanded that everybody stopped "MASHING" haha. Fantastic memory!
So i'd like to thank everyone that has been a part of Speedhorn for keeping the machine alive for 10 years and providing me with a bucket load of arse kicking tunes and some brilliant times!
Good luck in whatever you guys do and i'll see you for sure at the Glasgow gig and where ever it is you have your last ever show!
Shame about the split. I've become somewhat attatched to RS, particularly the first album. Wish you all the best in 2009 and beyond, and hope to see you this year.
I am sad to hear the news that '08 will be your last year. My Old band [Miss:Spelt Yoof] supported you guys at the Cambridge Man-on-the-Moon in 2000 I think it was. I found a picture of the billboard of the gig at the weekend in a memory box. I was really proud to play with you guys and remember sitting outside with a beer watching the walls shake and the landlord ran out with a dB meter yelling "fuck me 102 decibels!"
You assholes were probably the first heavy band I got into back in 2000. Your music's provided a soundtrack to some proper highs and lows. Fucking gutted you're splitting - best of luck for the future!
