I grew up in Silverdale, WA. but I'm from Haida Gwaii ( Queen Charlotte Islands and Southeast Alaska). I started playing electric guitar in Junior High and I sucked. A friend asked me if I ever considered playing acoustic and I thought it was a good idea, I’m sure my parents would have agreed also. I’ve been playing acoustic guitars ever since. I also hung out in Berkeley and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a BS degree in Political Economy of Natural Resources. My minor was hanging out at the Keystone Tavern on University Ave and listening to great music such as regulars: John Lee Hooker, Jerry Garcia Band, Queen Ida,and the Greg Kihn Band, as well as touring bands such as the Ramones, George Thorogood, Blondie,Freddie King, Ray Charles etc. I started writing songs while sitting on a bench in La Loma Park in the Berkeley Hills. (I haven’t recorded those songs yet but they are among my best I've written.) From what I remember and have been told, I had a good time in California. I later returned to Berkeley on a more serious note and received my Master of Social Welfare degree. I am an Alaska Native from the Haida Tribe. My grandmother Dorothy Wallace, daughter of master carver John Wallace, grew up in Hydaburg, Alaska. My grandfather was Douglas Edenshaw, Masset B.C., son of Henry Edenshaw and grandson of Chief Albert Edward Edenshaw. I am the great great grandson of Albert Edward.
The songs on this webpage were written by me and recorded at Jeff Tassin's studio in Manchester, WA on March 24th and 25th, 2007. You can check Jeff's music and studio out at jefftassin.com. I played handmade Paragon guitars named Juggernut and Cedarnut on the recordings. I also played harmonica on some songs. You can check out Paragon guitars at www.paragon.com , you won't be sorry. Jeff played drums, guitar, bass and mandolin. Jeff is a 3-time Emmy winner and has been listed as one of the world's best guitar players on garageband.com.
Live, I play acoustic guitar, harmonica, and sing for the most part but after hearing my songs come to life with other instruments, being in a band might be fun in the future. MY CD called Soggy Old Town is available for downloading on SNOCAP on this site.
I have about three other CD’s worth of songs to record in the near future. This CD contains my native songs, such as Indian Time, Riding On the Wings of a Raven, and Haida Gwaii is Calling, as well as some blues tunes such as, Grown Up Blues and Nicotine Blues. I hope you check back from time to time to hear new stuff. Thanks for reading this, I appreciate you taking the time. I hope to meet you at one of my shows, live is best.
