Raphaële Atlan est née le 10 mai 1983 à Paris.

Formation

Très tôt attirée par la musique, elle suit des cours de piano classique, puis des cours de chant à l’adolescence. A partir de 17 ans, elle intègre divers groupes en tant que chanteuse professionnelle, tout en poursuivant un cursus universitaire littéraire.

De 2003 à 2005 elle entre à l’American School of Modern Music de Paris, et rencontre le pianiste Serge Forté, avec lequel elle approfondit l’étude du piano, et qui l’initie au jazz. A partir de 2007 elle prend régulièrement des cours d’improvisation vocale avec Michele Hendricks, et de piano avec Pierre de Bethmann.

Depuis le mois d’octobre 2008 elle a intégré le Centre des Musiques Didier Lockwood, étudiant aux côtés de Benoît Sourisse, et d’autres pianistes de renom (Emmanuel Bex, Manuel Rocheman, Olivier Hutman, Bojan Z, Pierre-Alain Goualch, Laurent Coq, etc…).

En juillet 2008 elle est en demi-finale du Montreux Jazz Voice Competition, avec un jury présidé par la chanteuse américaine Patti Austin.

Groupes et albums

Au mois de mai 2007, elle apparaît sur l’album du trio de Serge Forté (Karl Januska, Marc-Michel Le Bévillon), La Bohème, sur lequel est également invité le chanteur Alain Chamfort.

Depuis 2008 elle se produit régulièrement en duo avec le contrebassiste Zacharie Abraham (concerts au Café Laurent, Swan Bar etc…) ainsi qu’en quartet avec le batteur Nicolas Charlier et le saxophoniste Lucas Saint-Cricq (concerts au Café Universel, Le Cadran d’Evreux, etc…), formation dans laquelle elle interprète à la voix et au piano compositions originales, standards de jazz et de musique brésilienne.

Raphaële fait également partie d’un tout nouveau groupe, The Soul Catchers, dont la musique est basée sur des compositions originales alliant pop, jazz, groove et nu-soul.

Raphaële Atlan was born in Paris on May 10th, 1983. She was attracted to music at a very early age, started having dancing lessons at the age of 6, then piano lessons when she was 9 and singing lessons when she was 15.

When she was 17, she started singing as a professional with several bands, while completing her Art degree course at La Sorbonne University.

Then in the fall of 2003, she applied to the American School of Modern Music in Paris for two years, and, at the same moment, met the pianist Serge Forté with whom she acquired greater skill as a pianist. In July 2006, Raphaële made her first recording in the Serge Forté Trio's album, La Bohème (Ella Productions©), with Karl Jannuska (drums) and Marc-Michel Le Bévillon (acoustic bass). She was invited to sing beside Alain Chamfort and selected two masterpieces of the French musical repertoire. This experience allowed her to meet and to perform with other great musicians and singers (Sheila Jordan, David Linx, Stéphane Guillaume etc.)

Since 2007, she’s been working with Michele Hendricks to improve her vocal improvisation skills, and has been taking piano lessons with Pierre de Bethmann. In the meantime, she also started performing in several hotels, clubs and restaurants in Paris.
In July 2008 she was a semi-finalist in the Montreux Jazz Voice Competition, with Patti Austin as president of the jury.

In October 2008 she got into Centre des Musiques Didier Lockwood, in order to focus on the study of the piano with the organist and pianist Benoît Sourisse, and other famous pianists (Emmanuel Bex, Manuel Rocheman, Olivier Hutman, Bojan Z, Pierre-Alain Goualch, Laurent Coq, etc.).

Since 2008 she forms a duet with the bass player Zacharie Abraham (concerts in Café Laurent, Swan Bar etc…) and a quartet, adding the drummer Nicolas Charlier and the saxophonist Lucas Saint-Cricq (concerts in Café Universel, Le Cadran in Evreux, etc…).
In these groups she interprets on the voice and piano both original compositions, jazz and brazilian music standards.

In February 2010, she also set up a new band, The Soul Catchers, with four other young musicians. Together, they achieve in their compositions a pop music that’s influenced by groove, jazz and soul music.
