MY STORIES:
Are all linked HERE, at Storywrite.com. I'm working on making them more accessible here. All comments, positive and negative, are vastly appreciated.
Music
I'll give just about anything a listen. My preference begins in metal and travels through the various shades of rock before splitting up, roads of the resulting fork headed towards the separate realms of electronic/darkwave and folk/world music. Basically, give me something with an ORIGINAL dark sound or a big scope; no paeans to club dancing or mallrats whining about how much their parents suck.
Oh, and no fucking jam bands. I'm no musician, but even I know that the ability to play the underground theme from Super Mario Brothers does not make you one.
Favorites of all time include Nevermore, Moonspell, Amon Amarth, Solitude Aeturnus, A Perfect Circle, Loreena McKennitt, Niyaz (anything with Azam Ali, really), Collide, Dargaard, Skyclad, Gjallarhorn, early Soilwork, Strapping Young Lad, Draconian, Flowing Tears, Symphony X, Thurisaz, Bal-Sagoth, Tristania, Woods of Ypres, Agalloch....I have also been listening to a lot of soundtracks lately.
Movies
Again, dark atmosphere/subjects, big scope, stuff that you have to think about when you leave the theater...but I'm definitely not opposed to some empty-headed B-movie hilarity, either. I love a GOOD historical epic.
Favorites? Braveheart, The Crow, The Fountain, Cloverfield, Last of the Mohicans, Girl In 3D, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Cabin Fever, anything Monty Python or Mel Brooks, The Wicker Man ('70s original), Pan's Labyrinth, Jacob's Ladder, Secretary, Children of Men, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Jacket, Borat, Mongol
Television
I don't watch it much anymore; I generally get very angry and cynical watching the stupidity of most TV shows. That said, some good stuff is (or was) on Futurama, The Twilight Zone, Robot Chicken and Cities of the Underworld.
Books
I'm a bit more broad when it comes to this medium; anything and everything that interests me, I will read. From "literature" (I hate that word; it's too elitist even for me) to cosmic horror to humor to history to philosophy to erotic works. The works of H.P. Lovecraft, Mark Twain, Elizabeth Haydon, Shirley Jackson, H.G. Wells, William Wordsworth, Madeleine L'Engle, John Willie and Doug R. (wherever you are) have yet to disappoint me.
Some individual books: "The Fall of Rome" by R.A. Lafferty. "Black Elk Speaks" by John G. Niehardt. "A Clockwork Orange" by Anthony Burgess. "I, Lucifer" by Glen Duncan. "The Shining" by Stephen King. "Atlantis: The Antediluvian World" by Ignatius Donnelly. "Spoon River Anthology" by Edgar Lee Masters. "Veronika Decides To Die" by Paulo Coelho. "Books of Blood" by Clive Barker. "1491" by Charles C. Mann. "Auschwitz" by Dr. Miklos Nyiszli. "Dracula" by Bram Stoker.
Some authors whose short stories I enjoy: M.R. James, Algernon Blackwood, Arthur Machen, Elizabeth Bowen, Daphne Du Maurier, W. Somerset Maugham, Vladimir Nabokov, Joyce Carol Oates, A.E. Van Vogt, Louise Bohmer, C.C. Parker
About me:
WARNING!
*Please bear in mind that the following may contain passages written with a certain slight bias, or indulging in historical/factual inaccuracies and blatant lies. The writer can't help it, he's a vain S.O.B. after all*
Hi there, I'm Russell, and I invented the mailbox. I was born in 200 log cabins near Louisville, Saturn, and my heritage is mostly European swallow. I used to have at least a semi-serious bio here, until I realized that no one reads these ruddy things and just judges everyone based on their pictures. I am Parashurama, the sixth avatar of Vishnu! I also enjoy funnel cake.
To the left and down-a-ways you will find a section listing various works of fiction that I, your humble monarch and glorious bartender, have completed thus far. Collect them all and win a prize! No purchase necessary. Must be 150 or older to enter. I would greatly appreciate any efforts to read through such piles of unimaginable slop and furthermore will offer obscene sexual favors to the elderly family and pets of those who respond with biting and savage criticism.
I endorse various bands/artists/causes/toilet bowl cleaners whose images you can find below, and who I suspect will all soon flounder due to said endorsement. Maybe it's because I'm secretly an Abyssinian Nazi watchmaker. You should look into them since they'll all be gone soon.
And finally, swing by the Baxter Avenue Morgue in Louisville this October to see my lovely features and graceful ballet-inspired performance in what is arguably the best haunted house in all of 451 Baxter Avenue.
Yours,
Beelzebuddha
Who Are You In The Cthulhu Mythos?
You are NYARLATHOTEP, the mind, spirit, physical representation of and messenger to, the Outer Gods. Often manifesting in human form, Nyarlathotep is a great manipulator of humans, bending them to the will of his masters. In true form Nyarlathotep is a 55' tall monstrosity with a giant trunk-like proboscis. But he prefers the guise of a human, often appearing as a rich, well educated man, bending people to his will and towards their ultimate downfall. Take this quiz!
Who I'd like to meet: Other writers, artists, musicians. Anyone who would take the time to read my stories and comment on them. Other fans of Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. Generally, anyone who shares my interests or weird and possibly misplaced passions. People who can write a message that doesn't consist of "What's up?"
Excellent! I've been making new stuff and I'm gonna put it all on eBay soon since it's a much easier format for people to buy things. But I'll be posting updates here as well as taking custom orders, so send her my way!
The film told me nothing I didn't already know, and I felt like it took an hour and a half to get a half hour worth of information, way too much dead space.
Yes, I love that song. I actually liked Monotheist, but it was definitely a different take from earlier CF. Of course, they give me a new album and then screw off again. Typical, eh? LOL ;D
So glad the book arrived!!! Thanks for letting me know, luv. :D Let me know your thoughts, when you get a chance to dive in.
Faceless and Descending- 'Endless Reign of Suffering' available through Beneath the Fog Productions. $7.50 each!!! And it comes with a (FREE) Beneath the Fog compilation CD.
My time in D.C. was a bit hurried, but I enjoyed what I got out of it. If I get another chance to go I'd like to stay at the Museum of Natural History for longer than like an hour and explore the whole thing.
Glad to see a true die hard making the trip down for the show. It'll be worth it for Absu's first tour in a decade. Are bringing some other comrades along?
Send me your snail mail address to: louise@louisebohmer.com and I'll give you the total and my pay pal address. :-) Thanks for picking up a copy, and I hope you enjoy it.
