Violoniste, compositeur et improvisateur, Régis Huby n'aime définitivement pas les cloisonnements génériques. Ses nombreuses collaborations sont le fruit de rencontres entre des styles les plus divers, du classique au post-rock en passant par des hymnes traditionnels. L'expérimentation est son mot d'ordre dans sa quête d’une musique “nouvelle”.
Violinist, composer and improviser, Régis Huby does not definitively like the generic subdivisions. His numerous collaborations are the fruit of meetings between the most diverse styles, the classical author in the post-rock by way of traditional hymns. The experiment is its watchword in its collection of a "new" music.

"This is a hard to pigenhole record, blending chamber jazz, avant-garde jazz with modern classical music with at times European folk ingredients. The band consists of Régis Huby on violin, Alain Grange cello, Bruno Chevillon on bass, Olivier Benoit on electric guitar, Catherine Delaunay on clarinet and Roland Pinsard on bass clarinet. Every piece is completely composed, with lots of contrapuntual and often sophisticated arrangements for the strings, full of rhythm and tempo changes, yet offering freedom for the soloists to improvise. In his compositions, Huby is a master in creating tension and release : repetitive figures, often reminiscent of Steve Reich, played in unisono with lots of dramatic power are reacted upon by the other instruments in the same vein, driving the composition to moments of climax, yet never exploding but changing unexpectedly into slow and sweet melodic interplay and than back into an overdrive forward movement. The contrast between the strings and the rawness of the electric guitar or the bass clarinet is strong, giving the music extra power and depth. The musicians are absolutely stellar, and their genre-blending skills are amazing, moving from one to the other while maintaining a high quality performance in each. The music too shifts from one mood and mode to the other : accessible with claws, sweet with a angry attitude, reverent and iconoclastic, hypnotic and refreshing, serious yet light. A musical adventure. Fans of John Zorn's string ensemble or of Bang On A Can will love this."

À la recherche de l'art total, Régis Huby part du folklore breton et de bruits anodins collectés par picorage et bricolage, et il en vient à mettre en place une étonnante dramaturgie qui échappe à toute position "régionaliste", mais s'attache avant tout à transfigurer les matériaux de base. Le résultat est un spectacle musical et photographique dont le titre étrange évoque un jeu des contraires. Soumettant les références traditionnelles à des interprétations audacieuses, mêlant la bombarde, le biniou et la vielle à des instruments modernes familiers du jazz, Régis Huby ouvre le chapitre du "postmodernisme bretonnant".

“Ever since Django Reinhardt brought gypsy music to jazz in the 1920s, European jazz has thoughtfully incorporated various native folk musics into itself, often creating exciting new hybrids. Violinist Regis Huby's first album as a leader is a sterling example of this cross-cultural experimentation; born and raised in France's coastal Brittany region, an area with a vital musical tradition based on the combination of the violin and a special regional reed instrument called the Breton bagpipe, Huby has brought that regional folk style into France's equally exciting avant-garde jazz scene. The 17 tracks here range from "Maria" -- a nearly nine-minute adaptation of a folk song played on Breton bagpipe, hurdy-gurdy, and electric violin for an otherworldly skirling sound -- to minute-long fragments of skronking free jazz. Odd though it is, the combination works wonderfully, making Le Sentiment des Brutes one of the more fascinating European avant-garde jazz records of its time.”

An electro acoustic duo : an artistic project originating from complementary yet conflicting timbre and phrasing which then branch out and are permanently questioned by the sound treatment. A constantly evolving sound results from the solists’ .collective improvisation derived from these elements.

Zaho, cette jeune canadienne d’origine algérienne a plus d’une corde à son arc. Elle a déjà chanté avec Idir ou dans un autre registre avec Don Choa ou en El Tunisiano, mais c’est sur le r’n’b que la belle a jeté son dévolu.
Grain de voix suave et langoureux, instrus mixant pop, hip-hop et rythmes orientaux, textes faciles mais aussi humoristes, la jeune damoiselle sait se faire aimer par un large public, sans tomber dans le formatage qu’on nous livre sur les ondes à longueure de journée !
