  • Bio

Resident Scout is a former solo project created by its founder, Hobey Kuhn in 2009. As a senior in high school, he wrote, recorded, mixed, played and produced his first album, "My Greatest Sympathies," released July 6, 2010. Much like that of Moby and Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails, Hobey Kuhn was the only person behind the endeavors of Resident Scout, having recorded the entire album on his own. Resident Scout's workmanship stretches from the light and simple feel of Indie Rock, from bands like Spoon, Cold War Kids and Vampire Weekend, to the edgier, more energetic feel of 90's Alternative, Grunge, and Blues, artists like Nirvana, The White Stripes, and the Foo Fighters. Upon beginning a small promotional campaign, Resident Scout has gained a lot of exposure since its first album release. The Deli Nashville had Resident Scout peaking at #2 on Nashville's Indie Rock Charts, and has nominated Resident Scout as Nashville's Best Emerging Artist of 2010. Resident Scout came second in AMP Magazine's Unsigned Band Contest, and will be featured in their upcoming issue. Blogs, podcasts, and both online and college radio have all featured Resident Scout, all without the band ever performing a live show. This encouragement has led Kuhn to consider obtaining more members into the Resident Scout pseudonym and become a full band, allowing not only promotion through print and web, but also on stage. Kuhn therefore enlisted his twin brother, Andrew Kuhn, on guitar and backing vocals, Mac Frith on drums, and Hicks Woolwine on bass guitar. Because band members attend different colleges, touring is limited. However, Resident Scout aims to play a multitude of shows in the summer and winter of 2011 in Nashville and it's surrounding areas, and plans for a full tour in the summer of 2012 are in development for the Southeast. The album is available for download at all major online retail stores (iTunes, Amazon, etc.) but for promotional purposes you can also download the album for free by writing your zip code and email address in the boxes in "The Stash" tab of this website!

"In an era where bedroom pop and chillwave artists are a dime a dozen, Resident Scout shines through largely on the shoulders of Hobey's tremendous ability to give equally passionate performances on guitar, bass, and drums, as well as his ear for melody, and powerful voice beyond his years. These elements combine to make original, exciting, and impassioned music that can be appreciated by music lovers of all tastes." - Scott Marquart of Oh Stereo

"Resident Scout is from Nashville, like the Kings of Leon, only better. No, I'm not one of those Kings of Leon haters, I think they're decent... I was just never totally convinced by any of their albums. Instead this virtually unknown act who is made out of just one individual, is better at creating them... Great work, Hobey, I salute you." - Mihai Vancea of My Indie Music Blog

"Not because I get paid to do this...occassionally I come across some kick ass music from a kick ass band and I just wanna share. Resident Scout. Amazing" - Patrick Sanders of KQXY- 94.1 FM

"I can't say it enough how stoked I am to have talked to Hobey Kuhn. I think he represents something for me and for us, going after what you want with the DIY attitude. He kind of does his own thing and it comes out great, and as one person, he stands alone. If he needed to stay a solo project, he definitely could. He has an awesome sound, awesome songs, awesome lyrics, and an awesome voice. We wish you the best here at Music Passion Magazine, and we love your stuff." - Lisa Kaczmarek of Music Passion Magazine

"There's a slight twist here, however, as rather than focusing on the guitar-based rock project on metal, or punk, or some relative of early-80's college rock that helped shape so many of today's artists, Resident Scout takes an unusual approach in jumping directly into mid-90's alt-rock. Before you shudder, 'I lived through it the first time and it wasn't good then,' please, hold your ridicule." - Chris DeLine of Culture Bully

"As soon as the music roared to life on 'My Greatest Sympathies,' I knew that there was going to be a good listening experience waiting ahead for me... With all of the well done music that's found on, 'My Greatest Sympathies,' Resident Scout shows that age is just a number and if you're willing to put forth the effort and have the talent, great things can happen... I see a bright future for him." - C. W. Ross of C.W.'s Music Blog

"We love Hobey Kuhn. Unashamedly and unreservedly... 'My Greatest Sympathies' is a rare, rock n roll insight into the mind of the target audience..." - Unpeeled Magazine

“This last song (Exactly What You Need) is fantastic, I love this one. I love going into the turnaround going into the chorus I thought was really cool. Kinda like old school Zombies. And the chorus was killer, I loved the energy, and the breakdown he did in the middle. I listened to this song three or four times after I listened to it the first time, and he did a great job. Great job Hobey Kuhn.” - Dave Criddle of The Homemade Hits Show

"Bottom line: If you don't want to party with Resident Scout then you suck." - Aron Gibson of AFGMR!

"This is an incredibly gripping and interesting album full of groovy loud pop/rock tunes with a difference... This is as good or better than what we hear from many bands who have been writing and recording for years. If this is what he's capable of now, there's no telling what this guy will be coming up with in the future... TOP PICK." - Don W. Seven of babysue and LMNOP

"that shit was crazy bro. I've been playing punk, but I see the future of rock in your stuff." - Will Rorke

"MAN THE MOST SICK NASTY MUSIC EVER! But seriously, really good." - Rafiq Uddin of Overcast Skies

"This music rox my sox off" - Andrew Kuhn of Outback Studios

"all rise is SO CATCHY. geeeez. that breakdown part like right before 4min with all the computer sounds is really cool too, reminds me of a radiohead nirvana baby. i want you to get an actual BAND and play live cause it would be a fuun show." - Lizzie Conner of Ave Marling, MOM

"Resident Scout is legit. I would even say radio worthy, I kid you not. As far as unsigned bands go, Resident Scout falls in my top 4. I straight up love this music." - Lydia Nace

"Hey I think it's really cool that you did this, man. It sounds really professional and legit. I'm really enjoying it a lot. Way to show up all those other indie bands in the area haha keep it up." - Joe Speer of Achilles Heel, Fo'Skin

"resident scout... holy fuck! really... fuckin A dude! great stuff! makes me happy to hear good music coming along... i gotts to say... hell yeah!" - Chris Parsons of Real Music 101
