REZA ASLAN
is a superfly author and religious scholar. He's got a list of credentials that gives him some serious street cred in the world of Islamic studies and general scholarly pursuits. His new book "How To Win A Cosmic War" will be on bookshelves near you on April 21, 2009. But if you haven't read his first book "No god but God" you're missing out on some serious knowledge and writing prowess. Plus even though he's the greatest smartie-pants ever he's a living doll and exceedingly cool to all his groupies.
This site is run by a couple of groupies. Please, don't use the message feature to message Reza himself. You'll only reach a couple of girls nodding in agreement that he rules.

Reza Aslan's Intellectual Groupies has 572 friends.
Monica, Hopefully you'll get to see him on his Euro leg of the tour this summer. I get back to the states right after he leaves. It's starting to give me a complex.
We got a lot of new "friends" after the last Daily Show. Hope everyone chimes in with a comment or two. Always happy when people send me links to post too.
Second, I'm in the same boat as you Stella. I'm living in Romania now and I totally forgot about the new book. Then I was checking out the Daily Show online and watched monday's episode. You would not believe how giddy I got when he came out. Anyway...hopefully he'll do a European tour and stop by a nearby country.
Happy reeeeeeeeeally late Persian New Year, Nowrooz Mobarak! and have a great week guys! Va pup (kiss to y'all...in Romanian)
Well Rashid, you're super lucky. I'm definitely envious. I still haven't seen him speak. And now that I live in Colombia I just don't think it's going to happen...I won't even be able to order the new book here! Not a lot of Islamic Scholars running around South America it seems.
Anyhow, the new book is just around the corner and I hope everyone is getting stoked.
Hey Stella...been a while since I posted here...yeah, I actually did get to see him...twice!
He came to Madison on two separate occasions since then...I even had a private student session with him with like, 10 people or so. Amazingness, as usual...
Hey folks, I haven't been here in a while since I started school full time and have been super busy :( But when I saw Colin Powell's endorsement of Obama on Meet The Press last Sunday and heard what he had to say about the "Obama is a Muslim" attacks I was pleased, and it reminded me of the groupies. I thought you guys might enjoy hearing it if you haven't — the vid's on my page. There's a good Daily Show one too, addressing racism against Muslims in the McCain campaign.
Thank you for the info Stella; if there is a podcast of the show available, I'd like to watch it again, and Reza's friends should watch it as well. The long and the short of what transpired was that Reza said the bellicose rhetoric against Iran coming from some quarters would naturally make at least some in their government a little jittery, as well as in the general population. The response from the right wing empty suit also appearing on the show was that it was ridiculous to suggest the bellicose rhetoric was coming from the US, that it was a response to Iranian warmongering. Reza was not on the show at that point, and couldn't respond. Cheers, Jim.
The Heritage Foundation is a conservative "think" tank that supports free enterprise (at all costs I believe) and "Traditional American Values". It's funded by a co-owner of Coors and billionaire Richard Mellon Scaife. Generally, it's safe to disagree with everything they say as far as I'm concerned. They have a lot of political influence unfortunately. They have a history of distortion and low blows. I'm not at all surprised they would do that.....not that they would listen to legitimate argument.
You made great points on Fareed Zakaria's GPS ( I think that's where I saw U, some show on CNN anyway... ), and then some jerk from the Heritage Foundation trashed U in the next segment when you weren't on the air...is the Heritage Foundation a Think Tank? More like a Stink Tank! LOL! No God But God is Great, I've read quite a few accounts of the martyrdom of Imam Husayn, but yours has a good mix of brevity and poignance. Khoda Hafez, Jim.
