Buddy Holly, Everly Brothers, Hank Williams and all the real country music from the 50s, 60s, and early 70s. The fabulous Philly Soul music that only got played in that market in the mid 60s. White piano-based soul, as in Carole King and Laura Nyro. The one-namers: Dylan, Zevon, Springsteen, Cash, Dion. Then there's Johnny Rivers, Roy Orbison, George Harrison (Beatles and Solo career)and Mark Knopfler--sonically they're perhaps the closest comparisons I believe truly might stick; the list could go on and on.
Sounds Like
Roy Orbison, you got nothing to fear. Vocally, somewhere between Johnny Rivers and Bob Dylan. Musically, everything from Dion and the Everly Brothers to Bee Gees, Hall & Oates, and Dire Straits--but they're originals--so that should cover a lot of ground.
If Johnny Rivers, Mark Knopfler, Warren Zevon, Bob Dylan and Van Morrison wrote songs together at the gravesite of Buddy Holly, the result might be something like Roger Silverberg's music.
