Born and raised in Montreal Richy Farkas always had the soul of an artist. His musical talent became evident very early on with his first guitar, given to him on his 12th b-day by his grandmother. His passion along with a strong ear for music made him the singer and songwriter he is today. His childhood in the West Island is summarized by a rollercoaster of memories which awakens a singer-songwriter like no other. After a taste of biochemistry at Concordia University, the artist within guides him towards photography. It is only a few years later that he decides to follow his passion for music and devotes all of his energies into it.
Guitar strings under his fingers, Richy recreates events and circumstances of his life through music. With original compositions, he shares his life, emotions and ideologies while presenting stories of love, loss, desire and joy in a universal language. His experiences have consolidated his own style, an amalgamation of folk, reggae, pop and rock.
In 2007 he meets Kyle Morin (double-bassist) and Mike G (drummer). An instant bond was created amongst them and gave rise to the Richy Farkas Band.
These undeniably gifted musicians were granted winners of the contest “Propulsion Jazz” from Couleur Jazz radio in 2007 as well as the “Grand Prix Jazz de General Motors” at the International Jazz Festival of Montreal in 2008, with the Arden Arapyan group.
Ever since, the Richy Farkas Band offers writings and melodies where depth and poetry can let off steam with rhythm and energy.
