The Riddle project started in summer 2002. The name of the band is indicative of the project’s aim, which is to create music that is highly evocative and imaginative, by means of a unique fusion of many different musical genres.
The band, whose members had previously worked together on an electronic music project, began joint musical research, based primary on improvisation, that resulted in the first recording session.
After a period of live performances in Italy and Europe, the group takes part in the 2004 Arezzo Wave Love Festival competition.
Confirmed by the jury as one of the ten best Italian bands during the selection process, Riddle reaps acclaim and wins the award for best concept in the Clipwave section, with the videoclip “Quiet promenade”. The track also appears in the official festival compilation.
In April 2005, the band publishes its first album “riddle.” (La Matricula/BTF/Venus), printed and distributed in Italy, Europe, Japan. The album achieves great appreciation by the critics and RIDDLE begins a first tour in Italy.
Since then the group has worked with various types of projects: multimedia performances, artistic productions for different Italian artists, composition and performance of music for silent film comedies of the early nineteen-hundreds, work in the theatre and, naturally, live performances.
The band has played live in all sorts of situations and venues, from important rock festivals to rock clubs, social centres, theatres, bars, schools, city squares and also simple, bare rooms with an audience of a dozen or so people.
RIDDLE is a project that is constantly undergoing changes and that has been defined by the press in a wide variety of terms and has been compared to many other, different groups. It is therefore not easy to define the band without using the usual labels, dreamed up to define whatever fails to fall into a specific category.
In RIDDLE the rock attitude goes hand in hand with a love of “atmospheres”, echoes of classical and contemporary music, veins of jazz, punk agro and a dressing of pop – music imbued with the most diverse personal experiences.
RIDDLE are musicians in search of a sincere, ludic approach, with no desire to intellectualize for the satisfaction of the experts.
In January 2009 their second album, “Tomorrow”, will be released by AMS/BTF, bringing further changes to the band’s sound with Carlo Garof entering as second drummer-percussionist and some sung tracks
