ROBERT G. ROY
(Baroque records,Circle music,BeatFreak recordings,Earresistible musick,Universal,)
Investing his name on house and progressive circuit with the series of successful releases on premium labels such as Harlequin, Nitelite Records and Earresistible Musick, Robert G. Roy continues to push forward his unique take on notorious Slovenian underground music heritage. This dare-if-you-care approach was best presented on hit single So Much Better, which crossed over into the mainstream after being treated by Robert’s fellow countryman Valentino Kanzyani.
As it usually is the case in the life of electronic music junkies it all started when Robert fell in love with computer made music. Growing up in the family of many musicians and singers helped as well did the basic music school training, but it was the explosion of dance music in the 90s and Jeff Mills in particular that fueled his early fascination with 4/4 beats. Learning quickly that walkman and old cassette-player connected to mixer won’t do the job he bought first pair of decks and started working on his skills. “As a teenager I often thought of running away from home to experience one of those infamous all night parties in the Ambasada Gavioli. And I was fascinated by Valentino Kanzyani and his 3-decks spinning, when I finally got there. He was the guy from the neighborhood we all knew and he really made it. We’ve been introduced some years latter and he still takes time to listen to my new tracks and comments them nowadays. He was and still is a true inspiration for all of us.”
In the beginning of new millennium Robert decided to learn more about the production. Few years, uncounted sleepless nights, numerous creative bug bites and few gigabytes of disc space later he managed to sign his first release. The Underground was picked up by the established Miami based house label Harlequin Recordings Group supported by deejays such as Danny Tenaglia, Boy George, Dirty Vegas, Danny Howells, Ralphi Rosario and Junior Vasquez. After becoming a big club success in Europe as well as overseas in the summer of 2005 The Underground was licensed for major dance compilations released trough labels such as American Universal Records (Electro Club), Italian Do It Yourself (DJ Selection 25) or French based Feel The Rhythm Records (Happy Music). “Lately I’m more into minimal stuff, although I never limit myself with the particular genre or trend. I like all good dance music. I’m very diverse and open minded producer and plan to develop my own style of electronic dance music someday, because I strongly believe that’s what makes good artist great.”
After few years of bonding with both dons of the Slovenian electronic scene, Valentino Kanzyani and Umek, Robert finally got the opportunity to release his own EP on label Earresistible Musick in 2006. And he made up for the given trust in the best possible way: namely, after being remixed by Valentino Kanzyani his tune instantly gained the support of some top names in the industry and crossed over into the mainstream. It was promoted by artists, magazines and radio brodcasts such as Eddie Halliwell’s and Fergie’s show on BBC Radio 1, Flash Brothers’ exclusive guest mix on popular Global DJ broadcast and one of the World’s most influential electronic music magazine Raveline (reviewed by 5 points). And a little secret for all that don’t know Robert that well yet – the sexy voice singing the vocals on that records is his own. We’ve told you right at the beginning that he comes from the familly of many acknowledged musicians and singers.
Robert’s near future plan is to develop the video for So Much Better. He already teamed up with top German based artists such as Markus Lange, Lexy and Luetzenkirchen which have trusted him with the remixes for their upcomming releases. Robert’s unique DJ-mixes are frequently broadcasted on specialized electronic web radio stations like Proton or Magma and with his big passion for club culture he continues to bring the biggest deejays in Slovenia. Young mr. Roy plans to release two new records on the Earresistible and another one on Harlequin in the forthcomming months, following the recently released remixes of Ad Finem's single Heaven Help Me and Shauna Solomon’s Mr. DJ on Harlequin (this release includes additional tretaments done by John Creamer and Stephane K). Also some single and remix releases for Sweet ‘N’ Low, Cuetip, F-Recordings, Red Flux and Gut Feel Records are scheduled to come out ‘till the end of 2007.
