The Roberto López Project is a polycultural orchestra, which gathers an arsenal of rhythms and sonic colors to create a fantastic audio world. Powerful, melodic and contemporary, the Nu Afro Latin style is defined by this adventurous mix of traditions. Exploring Afro-Colombian and Afro-Cuban music mixed with urban Hip-hop, Boogaloo, Jazz and Electronica... all blended together in a powerful cocktail.

Working with musicians from various parts of America such as Colombia, Cuba, Salvador, Brazil and Quebec, Roberto created the Roberto López Project. This project captures the essence of traditional Latin rhythms in an urban and contemporary environment:: from Cumbia-Funk to Mambo-Urbano, passing by the Boogaloo, the Latin-Soul, the Reggae Latino, Colombian Pacific coast’s Currulao, Colombian Caribbean coast's Porro Pelayero and 70’s salsa dura... all with a contemporary Montreal sound.

They have performed at many festivals including: the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal (2008), the Francofolies de Montréal (2006, 2007, 2009) where they received the Award of the FMMJ, Festival Alfonso Ortiz Tirado (2009, Sonora, Mexico), Harvest Jazz & Blues Festival (2009, Fredericton, N.B.), Musique du bout du Monde (2006, Gaspé), Festijazz de Rimouski (2007), Traditions du monde (2008, Sherbrooke), Rythmes du monde (2009, Chicoutimi), Week-ends du monde au Parc Jean Drapeau (2008), among many others.

Roberto has also composed for award winning films, including productions such as "The Women of Brukman" (ISCA) Official Selection at the SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL 2008, "Open Secret" (National Film Board of Canada), "L'argent" (ISCA), "Chronique urbaine" (Peripheria), "Musique rebelles Americas" (Productions Multi-Monde), and "Souvenir Kids" (Peripheria). His song "Oye Latino" was featured in the movie of the week Hollywood Wives, starring Farrah Fawcett (CBS). His work on the animated film "Manga Latina" can be heard on MTV LATINO. He recently scored music for the video game “MLB Front Office Manager” (2K Sports) available for X-Box 360, Playstation 3 and Windows.

"Que Pasa" has been selected as a finalist in the Indie Acoustic Project’s “Best CDs of 2006” awards in the Latin category.

"Que Pasa" is on the TOP 25 “Best World Music CDs of 2006” on MIX96 (Montreal).

Le Roberto López Project est un groupe polyculturel qui rassemble un arsenal de rythmes et de couleurs sonores afin de créer un univers audio fantastique. Puissant, mélodique et contemporaine, le style Nouveau Afro Latin (Nu Afro Latin) se définit par ce mixte aventureux de traditions. De la musique afro-colombienne et afro-cubaine jusqu’au hip hop urbain, au boogaloo, au jazz et à la musique électronique... toutes s’harmonisent ensemble dans un cocktail pétillant.

En travaillant avec des musiciens de différentes régions de l’Amérique, en provenance de Colombie, de Cuba, du Salvador, du Brésil et de chez-nous (Québec), Roberto a créé le Roberto López Project. Ce projet renferme l’essence des rythmes latins traditionnels dans un environnement contemporain : de la Cumbia-Funk au Mambo-Urbano, en passant par le Boogaloo, le Latin-Soul, le Reggae-Latino, le Currulao (côte Pacifique Colombienne), le Porro Pelayero (Côte Caraïbe Colombienne) et la Salsa Dura des années 70... le tout avec une saveur montréalaise contemporaine.

Ils se sont produit a plusieurs festivals : Festival International de Jazz de Montréal (2008), Francofolies de Montréal (2006, 2007, 2009) ou il a reçu le prix de la FMMJ, Festival Alfonso Ortiz Tirado (2009, Sonora, Mexique), Harvest Jazz & Blues Festival (2009, Fredericton, N.B.), Musique du bout du Monde (2006, Gaspé), Festijazz de Rimouski (2006), Traditions du monde (2008, Sherbrooke), Rythmes du monde (2009, Chicoutimi), Week-ends du monde au Parc Jean Drapeau (2008), entre autres.

Roberto a aussi composé pour des films primés, incluant des productions comme « Les femmes de la Brukman » qui a été dans la sélection officielle du Festival Sundance 2008, « Open Secrets » (Office National du Film du Canada), « L'argent » (Productions ISCA), « Chronique urbaine » et « Midnight Ballads » (Productions Peripheria) entre autres. Sa chanson « Oye Latino » a figurée dans le film de la semaine ''Hollywood Wives'', mettant en vedette Farrah Fawcett (CBS). Plus récemment sa musique fait partie du joue vidéo « MLB Front Office Manager » (2K Sports) pour X-Box 360, Playstation 3 et Windows.

Lauréat du PRIX de la FMMJ (Fondation du maire de Montréal pour la jeunesse) aux FrancoFolies de Montréal 2006.
