At its best, when it really connects and engages and transports, music is like film. There's a beginning, an end, and assorted climaxes dispersed throughout but the whammy comes from the sum of the whole, from those twists buried deep within the plot. And it feels really intimate even when hundreds are sharing a common experience.
The music of Toronto-based trio Rocketface isn't filmic: it's too visceral, too angular, and too full of quaking psychedelic heft to blend into the background. But it's film-like. It connects, transports and engages with an understated but unmistakable bluster that only the best rock bands can claim.
And as with film, where single scenes are isolated to give a taste but not to tell the story, the music of Rocketface isn't easily compartmentalized into singles. It really is a total experience.
"Nine times out of 10 today if you're listening to the radio and the singer isn't singing, you have no idea who the band is," Rocketface guitarist Ray Zilli says. "We try to avoid that, and I think we do."
