Il débute sa carrière artistique en 1980 en faisant ses classes dans les différents sounds systems new yorkais tels que Downbeat the Ruler ou African love. En 1984, il obtient un 1er hit en reprenant la chanson de Michael Jackson "Billy Jean" avec Steelie & Cleevie. En 1988 , il est signé par le label Elektra records sur lequel il sort son 1er album Unity.
