"The Roll Wit Us All Stars" is a rap duo featuring the two latest jewels crafted from Howard University's brilliant music tradition. Although these two rising stars, Malik Starx and Mista Cliff, began their college careers as enemies, their common love for music; women; and the rock-and-roll lifestyle swiftly swung the pendulum in the other direction. The group hails from and represents the Washington D.C. metro area (Va. and Md. included), but both members are proud of their ties to California (Cliff grew up in Anaheim, Malik lived in Palo Alto) which shines through in their music. Prior to the formation of the group in 2002, Mista Cliff was generating a local buzz in Washington, D.C. winning freestyle battles at various colleges and clubs, appearing on mix-tapes, as well as distributing his underground classic EP "the finagle".
It was also in this time frame that Cliff encouraged Malik to rediscover the passion for rapping that he put on hold for college. Malik quickly jumped back into the studio and recorded the buzz worthy EP "Life is Beautiful". The title track from Life is Beautiful featured Starx and Cliff rapping side-by-side, and was featured on a CD released with the 1st issue of "FREE" magazine. The Duo began performing locally in Washington, D.C. and decided to form a group. On the road to record their first project, Malik took it upon himself to sharpen his production skills and began a 15-hour per day beat making regiment. The Song "Roll Wit US" was born from this fire, and soon everything began falling into place. People began to see the vision and were offering to produce and record Cliff and Malik for little to no cost. After making 5 blazing songs, their college buddy and respected local rapper Keenan "K-Ruckus" Bates checked in his microphone for a business suit to help his friends get to where they needed to be.
"The Roll Wit Us All Stars" describe their Style as swift, quick-witted, fun, and honest, with a heavy concentration on lyrical content. These boys party hard, and transform their good times into song. Their music is the soundtrack to their friendship. As an added bonus, Starx and Cliff are connoisseurs of music in many forms, they borrow form their influences, and are not afraid to push the envelope of hip-hop as well as popular music.
