As a singer, musician, songwriter and entertainer, my career has taken me around the world and across the borders that separate the styles of music that I’ve created and performed. From the concrete jungles of heavy metal and arena rock to the dirt roads and backwoods of country music and southern rock, I’ve been there – done that – and I’ve still got a lot of unfinished business.
As Ron Keel, frontman for hard rock/heavy metal bands KEEL, Steeler, Saber Tiger, and Fair Game (I also spent a brief moment in time with Black Sabbath), I’ve sold millions of albums, toured the world as a headliner and opening act for icons such as Aerosmith, Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, Van Halen, and many more, plus notched several hits on radio and MTV including “The Right To Rock”, “Because The Night”, “Tears Of Fire”, and “Somebody’s Waiting”.
As country singer Ronnie Lee Keel, I released an award-winning solo album, toured military bases across Europe and honky tonks across America, and served as co-creator & co-producer of a successful Las Vegas country music show. The union of my rebellious rock n roll spirit with my appreciation for the real-life qualities of country music resulted in my band IronHorse, a southern rock hybrid which released two albums and performed over 700 shows.
As a songwriter, my compositions have been featured in a large number of TV shows (“Desperate Housewives,” “X-Files,” “The Simpsons,” “King Of The Hill,” “Guiding Light,” and more) and major films (“Men in Black II,” “The Messengers,” “Chill Factor,” “1000 Acres,” and many others, and I’ve had the thrill of hearing my songs recorded by other artists such as Vixen, Charlie Tatman, & Jesse & Noah Bellamy.
I count 43 albums to my credit – there are more if you consider the bootlegs and unauthorized compilations. I’ve enjoyed adventures in almost every aspect of the entertainment business – in addition to singing, playing, performing, and writing songs, I’ve been an actor on TV and in movies, I’ve borne the responsibilities of a music producer and executive producer as well as a manager, booking agent, and Vegas show producer. I’ve enjoyed making guest appearances on countless stages, for fun, profit, and for charities to benefit the less fortunate. Now I’m adding author to my résumé by writing my forthcoming autobiography “Even Keel: Life On The Streets Of Rock & Roll.”
I commonly characterize myself as a musical nomad, wandering the landscape of my industry seeking and conquering new challenges along the way. Looking for another mountain to climb, wondering what lies around the next turn, following my destiny as if it were a river winding through the canyons of my life career.
We’re currently finishing up work on “Streets Of Rock & Roll,” the all-new KEEL album, to be released January 29th by Frontiers Records. I’m not blowing smoke – this is the best KEEL music ever and we can’t wait to unleash it; we’ll be giving you a sneak peak soon on our web sites and MySpace pages soon. This release will coincide with “The Right To Rock: 25th Anniversary Edition,” also on Frontiers; this re-issue of our classic 1985 major label debut features a brand new version of the title track that’s even louder & heavier than the original.
We’re putting together KEEL dates for 2010 and planning album release parties in a couple of cities. In the meantime, I’ll be spending a couple of weeks on tour in the U.K. – performing my “Alone At Last – Solo Acoustic Show” as the opening act for Y&T. I love the challenge of doing these acoustic shows, taking the audience on a musical journey through my entire career with music from KEEL, Steeler, Fair Game, and IronHorse. I’m looking forward to re-connecting with our fans in England, Scotland, and Wales and hopefully this will pave the way for a full-blown KEEL tour in the U.K. at some point.
