Taking the best of Jamaican reggae from 1976 to 1984, Roots Records starts its career delving into the archives of groundbreaking labels Midnight Rock and Hit Sound. The first release, a compilation entitled The Lion Roars, showcases some of the pivotal recordings that shaped the new wave of Jamaican music. Featuring the productions of Jah Thomas and U Brown recording at King Tubby's and Channel One with their peers (including Anthony Johnson, Sugar Minott, Johnny Osbourne, Barry Brown, Roots Radics and Scientist) this first release bridges the gap between roots and dancehall, singers and deejays.
