THE NEWSPAPER TIDENS KRAV SAID THIS ABOUT OUR CONCERT AT TINGVOLL CHURCH 9th JULY 2005: "...They are in their mid twenties, they are beautiful and humorous and by all means inventive. They are daring both in their arrangements and their choice of repertoire. And not least are they educated, skilful and distinct."

THE NEWSPAPER VALDRES SAYS THIS ABOUT OUR CONCERT AT HEGGE CHURCH THE 10th JULY 2006:
"...The four charming girls took the audience on an amazing journey that beautiful summers night. Their beautiful voices moved playfully around the old church room, and gave most people goose bumps that more or less lasted the entire concert."
The quartet was established in Leeds in 2002.
The music is mainly rooted in jazz/experimental jazz and styles of ethnic music of various origins. All of their repertoire is original compositions by the groups members, with the sole exception of the use of old folk melodies and rhymes incorporated into their own contemporary compositions. The group has a very strong focus on improvisation and using vocal techniques that might be unfamiliar to most ears. the group is quickly becoming established on the jazz and world music scenes with successful tours to the USA in 2004 and 2005, and Norway 2003, 2005 and 2006.
Their very first album "Nordic Initiative" was released June 2005 as an independant release. You can purchase the cd online at http://www.cdroots.com/royst-01.html
Royst toured England in June 2007 and for parts of the tour they were joined by the fenomenal Iain Ballamy on saxophone, The LIMA sax Quartet and Norwegian precussionist Thomas Stronen. They presented a double bill concert in Leeds and in Birmingham, supported by LIMA, Leeds Jazz, Jazz Yorkshire, Norsk musikkfond, Birmingham Jazz and the Cobweb Collective.
Royst also visited Mexico in October and November 2007 where they mainly conducted workshops in the city of Tijuana, but also appeared in performances, TV and Radio broadcasts.
2008 has already seen some important changes to the group. With Therese Ulvan’s growing commitments to her work in USA she has left the group and been replaced by Anna Stott. As sad as we are to see Therese leave it is not without excitement that we present this new line up.
Royst are now looking forward to presenting new material and old material in new ways!

PLUMMER’S WORLD SANGUINE REPORT World Sanguine Report were forged together to sound the notes penned by Andrew Plummer. Featuring innovative musicians from both the London and Leeds jazz and new music scenes; they form a frightening and formidable ensemble; strength and beauty, heavy as lead. Plummer who “is quite clearly a deranged swamp beast trapped inside the body of an Englishman” (Wrath Records) pens music that reinterprets musical genre through juxtaposition of compositional techniques, cut throat improvisations and song. Drawing on a wealth of influences (Kagel, Scelsci, Beefheart, Messiaen, Waits, Patton to name but a few), the result is a violent, beautiful journey through the undergrowth of ‘gauzlin web stuck stick’. 7-man romp, 3 parts Bilbao Syndrome, feat. J. Allsopp, A. Bonney, M. Bourne; T. Greenhalgh; D. Kane; A. Plummer; C. Sharkey. www. andrewplummer. co. uk
