ATTENTION MUSICIANS: Due to the overwhelming number of videos I get each day for my comments section, I will only post a LINK to a video. Many Thanx for understanding! Also, PLEASE CHECK OUT MY NEW MIX ROOM PICS IN MY FOLDER "SAINT'S PLACE"! **********************************************
I love listening to and working with all types of music that is played with heart & soul and has its own unique signature. I love flying and am an active instrument rated private pilot for 31 years. I fly my own plane and have been known to jump out of them, mainly as a way to experience true 'free flight' with no strings attached (and to 'drop in' on the occasional BBQ)! I prefer flying privately and relish the challenge of stunt flying in particular. I love fast, tight cars, big dogs and all animals (though I am decidedly more cautious of the human variety!). I also love sushi, Italian food, furniture, shoes, clothes & their ladies (although I married an amazing Ukrainian lady!). Both Italian and German cars and motorcycles, Italian, Swiss and American airplanes. Italian, French and Spanish painters and sculptors; great art, great wine, great herb, cold beer, home made Vodka (especially "Popuchka's"), warm sandy beaches and positive people!
Music
Any and ALL that is truly inspired and well performed (not typed and/or auto-tuned to death), with an honest & original 'signature' regardless of "genre"! When it comes to my working on music, I must quote 'dem boyz' in 311, "Cut the BULLSHIT, it's Time to Throw Down!"
Movies
Since our moods are dynamic and in a fluid state of shift, not unlike the weather, I am not stuck on any genre... we must have a thousand DVD's already. However, I have always thought that "Producer" is a misnomer as it is commonly applied in the music business and creates confusion as to exactly what the job description of 'Producer' means, especially from the perspective of a consumer. Think: 'as a Director to a film' to clear up any confusion of 'Producer' as it applies to music. Just as I am drawn to certain 'directors' in the "music producer" business, in the world of cinema I find that I am drawn in a similar fashion to the works of a select few that are reliably consistent, dependably creative, innovative types who always manage to deliver the highest quality of timeless ART and therefore deservedly achieve their place in history. This caliber of film Director includes (in no particular order) Stanley Kubrick, Orson Wells, Alfred Hitchcock, Ridly Scott, Francis Ford Coppola & his gifted progeny Sofia, Elia Kazan, Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Oliver Stone, Martin Scorsese, Clint Eastwood, Roman Polanski, Quintin Tarentino, Kurasawa, Andrew Blake, Michelle Gondry and Michael Moore to mention a few.
Television
Such a powerful window on our world, such a bleak landscape; misused and abused, polluted and raped... but, having said that, there are a few 'dependables' such as The Simpsons, South Park, Bill Maher, Discovery HD, National Geographic HD, HD Net, Science HD, History, The Weather Station, Court TV. The American news stations are pretty much just "current event oriented" entertainment with blinders on to the rest of the world.
Books
Mixerman, God is Not Great (How Religion Poisons Everything), Super Model by David Breskin, Tibetian Book of the Dead, Challenger - A Major Malfunction (A True Study of Politics and Greed), There is a River, The 12th Planet by Zecharia Sitchin, Aristotle, Stephan Hawking, Aesop, Satre, Dylan Thomas, Darwin, Hunter Thompson, Kurt Vonnegut, Lewis Carroll, Shakespeare, Dante, Charles Dickens, Chaucer, Herman Melville, Orson Welles, William S. Burroughs, Samuel Becket, Albert Camus, Allen Ginsberg, J. R. R. Tolkien, and several others...
Heroes
Leonardo DaVinci, Galileo, Sir Issac Newton, Willy Shakespeare, Nikola Tesla, Tom Edison, Orville and Wilbur Wright, Chuck Yeager, Burt Rutan, John Lennon, Salvador Dali, Rupert Neve, Quincy Jones, Geoff Emerick, Tom Dowd, Che Guvera, Stephan Hawkins, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, Richard Branson...
I Produce, Engineer and Mix records. In my 38+ years in the music business my work has earned over 60 Gold and Platinum Disc awards including four “Diamond Platinum" (10 million +) awards with sales on the (+) side of a quarter of a billion units. I have participated as either a producer, engineer, and/or mixer on 18 Grammy nominated projects garnering 12 winners (for the Artists). Having said that, I must also say that few of the "merit badges" mentioned above reside in my personal 'Top 10'. None of us remember for very long who won what Nobel Peace Prize, Academy Award or Grammy and those are the "best in their fields". Applause subsides, awards tarnish, achievements are forgotten. The accolades and certificates usually get buried before their owners. What remains are the people who make a real difference in our lives and they are usually NOT the ones with the most money, credentials or awards. Like a great song, an inspired creation that is captured (in ANY format) at just that 'right' expressive moment will take on a life of its own and live on through generations! It has the ability to inspire and heal; actually change the world. Those are the moments I seek to capture and the only rewards that I strive to achieve with my work.
I consider myself truly blessed to have been fortunate enough to have worked with such diverse and talented Artists as: 311, MUSE, TOOL, BAD BRAINS, BREED 77, LIVING COLOR, U2, MOS DEF, SOUNDGARDEN, RED HOT CHILIE PEPPERS, THE CURE, CREED, SONIC YOUTH, KRAFTWERK, THE CULT, KILLING JOKE, KEZIAH JONES, KASHMIR, HENRY ROLLINS, DURAN DURAN, MICK JAGGER, JIMI HENDRIX, WHITE ZOMBIE, WHITNEY HOUSTON, ARETHA FRANKLIN, FATBACK, DIANA ROSS & MICHAEL JACKSON, ASHFORD & SIMPSON, GUS, SMOKEY ROBINSON, McCOY TYNER, BEN E. KING, DMC, JAN HAMMER, STEVEN STILLS, WARREN ZEVON, ORNETTE COLEMAN, THE LAST POETS, LOU REED, PAQUITO D'RIVERA, NELS CLINE, BILL FRIZELL, JOY DROP, RAY GOMEZ, FACE TO FACE, JOEY BARON, ADAM ANT and numerous others.
