"The band delivered a raw, unfettered punch...The crowd was thrashing around—it was nearly impossible to stand still." - Relix Magazine (live show review)
Someone recently said "If Brooklyn and New Orleans had a musical love child together it would be Rubblebucket." Rubblebucket is a wild young collective from the northeast with 8 to 9 members on any given night. Their banging horn sounds and dance beats provide a backbone for the mesmerizing vocals of lead singer, Kalmia. Rubblebucket's trip-rock sound has been compared to Talking Heads, Bjork, Fela Kuti and Portishead but what's in the bucket is completely their own.
In addition to winning Relix Magazine's Jam-Off competition in July 2008, Rubblebucket was recently named "Best New Band of 2008," by Seven Days Vermont. The title had previously been held by GRACE POTTER & THE NOCTURNALS (2005, 2006) and PHISH (2003, 2004). Recently featured on Spin.com as one of their "25 must hear artists from the CMJ festival..."
Formerly of John Brown's Body, Kalmia Traver and Alex Toth have been a musical pair for 5 years. They joined forces with percussionist Craig Myers (of Mike Gordon Band) in June of 2007 at an unforgettable jam session/party in Burlington, VTs Hood Plant. Inspired by that night Toth decided to start a big crazy band. Later that summer, Kalex met trombonist Adam Dotson at a 4th of July parade gig in Cambridge, MA. Before marching in their third parade in a row they chugged a six pack of Dogfish Head and Adam said he would join their band!
