Rubens Mello tem se dedicado à arte – cultura desde a década de 80, quando em conjunto com o grupo musical Vôo, participou assiduamente dos eventos culturais promovidos pelo “Centro Cultural João Cavalheiro Salém”, na cidade de Guarulhos. No ano de 1996, cursou no SENAC Guarulhos, Radialismo - Setor Locução (DRT n.º 15.349 - Folha 63V - Livro 28), chegando a apresentar em 1997, um programa de rock na rádio comunitária Life FM. Paralelamente ao seu trabalho musical, integrou um grupo de teatro amador, formado por jovens de sua comunidade, onde chegou a dirigir uma coletânea de esquetes no teatro da biblioteca municipal e uma adaptação sua, de um conto bíblico chamado “O Cântico dos Cânticos”. Em 1999, foi eleito o “sucessor de Zé do Caixão”, num concurso patrocinado pela Revista Trip e o extinto Jornal NP. Neste mesmo ano, gravou um piloto para rádio do programa “Sexta Negra” (Horror no Rádio), que serviu de estímulo para José Mojica Marins (Zé do Caixão) levar para a 89FM o programa “Noise”, onde Rubens chegou a escrever alguns textos. Neste período, passou acompanhar José Mojica em seus trabalhos e a estudar com ele, interpretação para cinema, ao mesmo tempo em que, no SENAC Santana, cursava – Técnico Ator – profissionalizando –se (DRT n.º 18.244 - Folha 25V - Livro 66). A partir daí, participou de alguns filmes publicitários, curtas metragens e também do longa de Hector Babenco – “Carandirú” – onde interpretou um dos policiais da tropa de choque. Passou a escrever roteiros e peças, dirigir curtas experimentais e independentes de baixo orçamento, onde se destacam “Lâmia” e “Conspiração” e "Tatúrula - Sinfonia do Medo" ( em Produção) . No momento dedica-se ao seu retorno à área músical, passeando entre a MBP e o Rock n Roll, com interpretações pessoais e poderosas. .
