NEW INFO!!! WE HAVE A NEW VENUE!!! BEGINNING MARCH 2, THE RUCMA SERIES WILL MOVE TO:
THE LOCAL 269, 269 HOUSTON AT SUFFOLK. F TRAIN TO SECOND AVENUE.
RUCMA, or Rise Up Creative Music and Arts, was conceived in the spring of 2007 in response to a series of high profile New York City music venue closings. In order to address the issue of accessibility, the RUCMA community began staging innovative music concerts at the Living Theatre, The Yippie Café, and now at The Local 269, where the series continues on a weekly basis. In addition, over two weekends in September 2008, Arts for Art and RUCMA premiered a series of avant-jazz performances and workshops in ten community gardens around Manhattan and Brooklyn. The series, entitled "In Gardens," will continue on a semi-annual basis. These efforts have been effective in reaching out to local NYC communities, and making innovative music and dance more available to New Yorkers. RUCMA has also helped inform artists and audiences alike about the value of this work.
The series is now at The Local 269, 269 Houston Street at Suffolk. F to Second Avenue. Admission is $10/$7 for students and seniors.
Some shows will be at Clemente Soto Velez, in the SEA Theatre, 107 Suffolk Street between Delancey and Rivington. F to Delancey.
