I usually perform all by my lonesome. On recordings, I play guitar, bass, banjo, violin, mandolin, cello, accordion, keyboards, percussion and other stuff (with varying levels of success).
On the album "Spiritual Billionaire," Derek Bondy plays trombone, Nathan Crockett plays violin, Jesse Dettwiler plays cello, Dan Pisarcik plays drums, Justin Ringle plays trumpet, Andy Rosenberg plays saxophone, and Scott Wilkensen plays viola. And Sam plays stuff too.
On my recent East Coast tour, Matt Beckemeyer played banjo and guitar.
Influences
The Beatles, Radiohead, Wilco, David Bowie, Joanna Newsom, Beck, Beethoven, The Shins, many more.
Sounds Like
A girl once told me I sounded like Devendra Banhart but with better lyrics. Then she told me she was on acid.
I was borned and risen in Colorado, and when it turned 2007, I moved to Portland. I have played my music here and there and on both coasts in the form of tours. I am very happy about this.
I write songs and sing them and play guitar. I also play several other instruments. I also play in several other bands: Horse Feathers, Invisible Rockets, Ivonrose Family Jamboree, Tchotchkes, and possibly more.
I just recorded an album. It's called Spiritual Billionaire. It sounds lovely and was created with the help of Dan Pisarcik at The Alice House. You can buy it or pieces of it on this very profile.
I recorded a prototype of this album last year. It's called Murray Manor. You can find it on CD Baby, iTunes, and the like.
Our underlapping leaves me most upset. For, I have looked to said clouds, and hear no whistle. OH, HESTIA'S SWEET WIND! Where is your tune! Where has Sam gone?
There is a spiritual void that even Buddhist can't fill here without your presence. Come sing songs, eat , be merry. We can try to sneak into North Korea.
Sam, I really miss you. Florida is nice. Sunny and hot! We sold our last copy of April Fossils the other night at a show we played in Melbourne. How have you been?
Nice job tonight! Your show rocked! Thank you for the comment invite! Funny that even though I haven't been in myspace I stumbled into it anyway! I love synchronicity. You guys rocked it! Hope to see you again soon! Also I haven't forgotten about our vocal/guitar trade... :) have a great night!
Hi Sam, Agh! I never see your show posts until the day AFTER they happen. Guess I need to check my myspace more. It's hard to believe I haven't seen you in a year. I'm heading out to Molalla to spend the Summer as a camp photographer, so I'm probably going to miss your next few shows, too. But if you have one around the beginning of August, I will make a point of being there (before I fly off to work in Hawaii in mid-August *squeals in delight*). I hope you're doing great and still the cool, mellow guy I remember you being. Jenne-
Hey Sam, thanks for the add... I'm playing at the Camelia Lounge tonight in the Pearl district at 9pm, so i can try to come to your bene concert at 7pm:) we'll see, I'm driving up from Corvallis
