The twice Juno and twice Gemini Award nominated Sarah Slean embodies a musical style all her own and has garnered a devoted, global fan-base following her two popular indie releases, Universe EP and Blue Parade, and four major label releases, Sarah Slean EP, Night Bugs, Day One and Orphan Music.
Sarah’s music has touched many in her native Canada and aboard. Her critically acclaimed fourth studio album, Day One, was released in 10 countries and produced two hit singles in Canada. In 2006 Sarah lived in France for more than seven months to tour and promote Day One’s European release, landing television spots on hit music shows such as "Taratata" and playing at some of the country's most celebrated music festivals. Sarah’s songs have also appeared on popular North American television shows such as “Party of Five,” “Dawson's Creek” and “Felicity”.
Formerly a classical piano major, Sarah has maintained ties with her classical and academic roots by collaborating with several of the Canada’s finest orchestras and ensembles (T.S.O, National Arts Orchestra, CBC Radio Orchestra, The Art of Time Ensemble) and by composing, as well as conducting, all of the string arrangements for her material.
Perhaps the most unique aspect of Sarah’s artistry is its breadth. In December 2004, she starred in the musical film Black Widow alongside Martin Tielli and Mary Margaret O'Hara. February 2006 welcomed her first exhibit of original artwork, accompanied by the release of her first volume of poetry, Ravens.
March 2008 will see the release of Sarah’s fifth studio recording, The Baroness, which features some of her most honest, moving and magical songwriting to date. A collection of paintings and a second volume of poetry by Sarah will accompany the album's release.
Citing such diverse musical influences as Glenn Gould, Tom Waits, PJ Harvey, musicals, Joni Mitchell, Irving Berlin and drawing from a host of literary, philosophical and artistic favourites, Sarah Slean's unique artistic output continues to inspire and amaze her fans.
Sarah Slean currently resides in downtown Toronto, ON and studies music and philosophy at the University of Toronto. She co-produces all of her own recordings and participates in the creation of each album’s cover art.
Thank-you Sarah, for sharing these aspects of yourself with the rest of us. On the hand, you provide a very warm, non-committal kind of, welcome embrace, by "selling" yourself to us. Sell, share, different measures of the same value, as everything has a cost in this life. I'll be stopping by the store as soon as the cheque clears*ahem*money talk, yeeesh! Having said that, there's still the other hand. It's no easy task for a man to be shown the error of his ways, when it comes to the opposite sex. Again, through the sharing of your personal feelings, utilizing the fine arts of graphic and audio, you excel at making this, healing process, worth every watery contribution, to the cycle of life.
I talk too much, so, thank you again. And please, feel free to keep "working". ;D

Poem 162 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): TEES TO TYNE: FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SUMMER 2001
Where traditions are not so rare; Sea, country and works scent the air; A multitude of monuments, Planted tubs and patterned pavements.
The longish pedestrian malls; The remnants of defensive walls; Historic buildings are a gauge Of the respect for heritage.
Wheat, rape and pines in the fields; Estuaries guarded by shields; Long sandy beaches and wide scenes; Romantic-ruin go-betweens.
Rivers in parts licked by trees, Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries, And crossed by practical delights - Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.
Fine churches headed at Durham; Football kits ad infinitum; Kept castles - one for study; Masonry behind masonry.
And, with moulding-works out that way, It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?
I'm very honored!!! I'd like to have you also on www.myspace.com/gilleschoir and www.myspace.com/gillesetmelodychoir - I wish you the best!!! LOVE Gilles Choir
Sometimes when i look around, all i see is misery, despair, frustration and pain...
Then, i close my eyes, take a couple deep breaths, RELAX...And ask myself, "WHAT IF all I saw was what I WANTED TO SEE?" Then, I open my eyes. I see the sun, I see the blue sky, I see my girls smiling back at me, I see life...
And then, lo and behold, I see nothing but OPPORTUNITY...
