Never imagining that self-promotion on the Web would actually get people to discover his music, this Flint native writes & records top-quality folk-rock songs; singing and playing acoustic guitar, harmonica, marimba, acoustic bass, light drums and percussion. Scott originally intended to hire studio vocalists for his demos to submit to major artists looking for new material, but decided to give it a try himself. When asked about his vocal talent, he said, "What vocal talent? What I do have is a unique speaking voice, one that I've been told has a calming effect on people. Hopefully some of that quality is evident in my singing as well." When asked if he was a working class hero, he said, "it's like the proverbial sound of the tree falling in the woods when no one is there to hear it - working class heroes are only labeled as such after gaining accidental recognition for their efforts. I voluntarily put my music out there, selfishly thinking it would make me feel good if I ever got positive feedback. Now I have, and it has been rewarding, but that's why I don't consider myself a hero. If other people do, that makes me feel good, too. I'm proceeding with caution in this impatient, fickle build-you-up-to-tear-you-down internet world. The Web is one of greatest tools there is for artists to make the fruits of their labors available for public appreciation/consumption. I'm not trying to appeal to anyone in particular, but popularity solely based on listener opinion, without major-label marketing, is a confidence-builder. I'm pleased with my success up 'till now, and it will be interesting to see where it takes me from here."
