Boom Magazine - Moncton
Singer-songwriter Scott Jackson is truly one of Canada’s national treasures. “if you put Tom petty and U2 in a studio together,” Jackson explains, “the Scott Jackson sound is what you might end up with!.” At the age of 21, Jackson picked up an acoustic guitar and began writing songs. Shortly thereafter, he launched himself onto the Vancouver music scene with the release of his first solo CD, “Via Satellite.” As a founding member of the band MK Ultra, Jackson went on to record the album “Apple,” which spent five weeks at the top of the HMV Independent charts. The disc landed the band two Music West headline shows, an opening slot for Nickelback and local radio play on 99.3 The Fox, drawing interest from several major record labels.
The band eventually came to that proverbial "crossroads" characteristic of so many bands and Jackson thus headed in a different direction . From that split, the 6-track EP titled ‘My World’ was born. The disc introduced the emotionally driven power ballad single, “What are we waiting For” to the world which garnered attention from across the border and overseas. That song and the song ‘Welcome To My World’ received subsequent airplay on The Quake FM Radio, KOZI FM Radio, Fearless Radio in Chicago, WDNY in New York, and across Canada. The band toured the States to packed houses following the album’s American release.
"My World" won rave reviews from the press, including The Vancouver Province and The Daily Vault. Producer Jerry Wong (Damn The Diva, Bif Naked, Loverboy), was so impressed by “My World,” that he became Scott’s music collaborator. Wong subsequently produced Jackson’s most recent full-length album release "Distractions.” "Distractions" brags a grocery list of strong writing and melodic hooks, most evident in songs like "Mercy", "when you Gonna Come Down" , "Precious Things", and "Walk a Line". The disc’s upbeat power single, “C’mon C’mon,” garnered radio play at over 20 stations across Canada, winnin g against U2 and Green Day, and received a rating of 75% Kool at Kool FM in Kitchener, one of the highest ratings any song has received during the life of that contest. The single is paired with a full-production Video Release which is awaiting airplay on Canada’s major video stations.Jackson has taken the internet by storm, with more than 30,000 fans listening more than 500 times a day, on his Myspace.com web page. His fan base extends to south of the border in the States from Washington State to California. Internet radio stations all over the globe have continuously played C’mon, C’mon, and the introspective alternative country track "Precious Things" has received rotation on radio stations in St. Louis, New York, Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles, as well as Germany and Denmark.
Don Coleman of A&R Group International has this to say about Jackson, “Heartfelt, Powerful, Passionate, Deep, Sincere. A natural born wordsmith who senses the truth in all of us and transports the listener to a higher place. Scott Jackson is a hidden gem who hits home run after home run out of the park! “
Jackson also works as a Behavior Consultant for Autistic and Developmentally Disabled kids, a vocation he holds very dear to his heart. His vision is to find a way to use music to create a greater awareness of the need for best-practice-treatment for kids with Autism. A devoted husband and father, Jackson resides in Maple Ridge, British Columbia with his wife and children.
