I am an American drummer living in Iceland. I was born (Feb. 1, 1973) in Norfolk, VA and grew up in Virginia Beach. At 16 I joined the funk/rock band Ant Man Bee and did a bit of touring.
As I got more into jazz I studied drums privately with the amazing percussionist Howard Curtis and performed with musicians such as pianist John Toomey, bassist Jimmy Masters, saxophonist Eddie Williams. I attended the University of Virginia's Writers Workshop in 1990 where I met trumpeter John D'earth, who later would regularly invite me to Charlottesville to play at Miller's. In turn, I invited him to play at the Knitting Factory... much later.
From 1993 - 1997 I attended William Paterson College in New Jersey where I studied drums with John Riley, composition with Vic Juris and had various ensembles lead by Rufus Reid et al. While in school, I started to get gigs nearby New York City and toured the US with guitarist Tim Reynolds and TR3.
In 1997 I graduated, got married to pianist Sunna Gunnlaugs and moved to Brooklyn, NY where I lived for 8 years and was lucky enough to play with such talented musicians as: Ben Monder, Michael Kanan, Tony Malaby, Angelica Sanchez, David Berkman, Chris Cheek, George Colligan, Kerry Politzer, Mark Helias, and Tim Berne.
My first CD (with Tony Malaby, Ben Monder and Ben Street) is called "Found Music" on Fresh Sound New Talent Records.
