Scott Brannon, a native Texan, started playing drums at age thirteen in Columbia, South Carolina sometimes with members of the Dixie Dregs, and Lynard Skinner. Scott then attended North Texas State University for 2 years before moving to Boulder, Colorado.
While living in Boulder Scott played and or recorded with Robben Ford, Stephen Stills, Mike Miller, Joe Walsh, Lowel George, Dan Fogelberg, Stanley Clark, Bill Conners,Tommy Bolin, Kim Stone, Bob Mocarsky, Bobby Rangell, Mike Roach, Randy Cobb, Terry Miller, Spider Middleman, Billy Rich, Mark McMillen, Rob Mullins, Michael John, the Fowler Brothers, Albert Wing, Dave Liebman and Larry Wilkens.
After what can only be called an encounter with a UFO Scott discovered that he could play bass and drums at the same time and set out to perfect his technique of right hand tap on bass and left hand and feet on drums. Scott moved to Los Angeles, CA. to persue his original music and after trying various combinations he met the great guitar and bass player Wayne Smith. Scott and Wayne formed the jazz/rock band Threshold, featuring Scotts simultaneous bass and drum playing and now known as Random Traveler, theyve shared the bill with such names as Robin Trower, John Entwhistle, John Mayall, Al DiMeola, Alan Holdsworth, Mark Isham, Kenny Rankin, Fowler Brothers, Fairport Convention, Andy Summers, Rick Derringer, Edgar Winter, Ronnie Montrose, Pieces of a Dream, Fattburger, Tim Weisberg, Bill Bruford, Acoustic Alchemy, and Keiko Matsui.
Scott began playing the hammer dulcimer in the early 90s, developing a unique style of playing and composing on the hammer dulcimer, he recorded and released Scott Brannon's Expedition. Produced by Scott and keyboardist Bob Mocarsky (Bobby McFerrin, Craig Chaquico, Positive Id), Expedition, a jazzy/new age CD, features many of the worlds best musicians such as: Brandon Fields (Tower of Power, Rippingtons); Kim Stone (Spyro Gyra, Rippingtons); Jeff Nathanson (Luis Miguel); Andy Abad & Ray Yslas (Shadowfax); Andre Manga (Paul Simon); Steve Fowler (Brian Setzer, Fowler Brothers) and Wayne Smith (Dirk Hamilton, John Andrew Parks). Scott Brannon's Expedition recently appeared in concert with Acoustic Alchemy and Keiko Matsui among others.
Scott's hammer dulcimer playing can be heard on Kazu Matsui's Wheels of the Sun, Michael Aston's Why Me, Why This, Why Now, Tim Kobza's 25th of December, Lewis Hutcheson's Space and Time and Tom Sayer's Visions in my Soul and he can be seen and heard in the feature movie Picture This!
Scott produced, engineered and played drums on Michael John's Due For a Change & Edge of the World, Kim Stone's More Often Than Not & Lets Cool One, played simultaneous bass & drums on Random Traveler's Odyssey at his home studio.
Scott, sorry we missed the red beans and rice, Got the call too late. I spent some time checking out the vids, wonderful stuff, especially the drum solo and cooking with scott and log drums on the side.
