Sex and Lies marks a move away from the "cheeky chappy" punk approach for Scully. Although it tackles a similar subject and still contains the same poignant [and believable] lyrics as some of his other songs, it takes a different, more serious approach to presenting it. Is Scully following the likes of Monet and Mark Rothko in going through a "blue" period? Only time will tell. Although it is a slightly different approach, fans will be glad to hear it is still definitely "Scully" and that can only be a good thing. This tune is great as an acoustic "unplugged" number, played on one's tinny laptop speakers, but would also be great with Scully's more powerful live show.
