   SeattleDIY's Blurbs
About me:
NOTE: We don't book shows or events! Please contact spaces directly.

About the Collective:
We are a collective whose mission is to promote and support the DIY ethos and community in Seattle. Our goal is to help this large and nebulous group of people stay informed about what the community is doing, hopefully leading to greater communication, participation, and collaboration.

Our Values:
We believe in being the creators of culture rather than consumers; in promoting a just society that supports itself through mutual aid and without hierarchies; in fighting against institutionalized oppression (racism, sexism, ageism/adultism, and homophobia), and we support environmental justice, animal rights, egalitarianism, and human rights.

Current Projects:
SeattleDIY.org & the Community Calendar
The SeattleDIY Collective's Guide To Seattle
SeattleDIY Monthly Community Newsletter
+ occasional benefit events at various venues (Carousel Fest!)
ETC!

Community Calendar Guidelines:
To be added to our calendar, events/venues must be...
1. All ages.
2. In Seattle or the immediate area.
3. Welcoming to all regardless of sexuality, gender, race, age, etc.
4. Neither commercial nor driven by motivations of profit.
5. Of active interest to the DIY* scene.

*For more information/clarification regarding the term "DIY," refer to this article from Wikipedia.

Who I'd like to meet:

We meet every Sunday at 6pm to discuss upcoming projects and the state of DIY in Seattle and what we can do to support the community. Please be aware that meeting locations may change from time to time. Message us for directions!

Nov 10 2008 10:09 PM

The FACTS about this Wednesday's Craft Night Seattle:

*I am really excited about it.
*It is my favorite day of the week because you get to share space with people and eat and get creative, and you don't have to stress about work.
*This week it's happening at Rachele's house.
*Rachele's house is in Ballard, right off of FIVE major bus routes.
*She's got a wood-burning fireplace.
*That actually works!
*Like you can sit beside it and enjoy the crackling and the warmth and so forth.
*And Craft Night is like twenty people crammed into one living room.
*There's not a lot of furniture, you grab your supplies and sit on the floor or whatever.
*It's amazing.
*Sometimes there is more food than I can bear to sample, which is saying a lot, and so I will pace myself accordingly this week.
*No one hassles you about being vegan.
*A couple weeks ago I ate, like, a ton of Josh's delectable brownies and Chelsea's amazing chili, and it was totally fine, because who cares?
*You never know who's going to show up, because basically everyone is always invited.
*And I won't know a lot of the people there, but it'll be fine, because everyone is nice and friendly.
*And sometimes there are fireworks.
*A couple months ago, it was this totally lovely day, and the sun had set, and I was sitting on the floor in the kitchen with some other random people, just chatting, and I was all kinds of stuffed, and everything was basically perfect, AND THEN Alex poked his head in and said "Who wants fresh coffee?" and I basically died from the perfection of the moment and getting exactly what my soul was singing for.
*I think that was my favorite cup of coffee. Ever.
*I wish you could've been there.
*I am really excited.
