One day, I wore a Seagram T-shirt on my walkabout. Now, readers who aren't gangsta rap fans may not know who Seagram is. I sure didn't: The tee was a freebie from the Rap-A-Lot label, and I liked the logo on the back. But everywhere I went, ghetto kids would come up and ask, "Where'd you get that? That's a smooth album." As it turns out, Seagram Miller was the nastiest gangsta rapper imaginable. When the Oakland star was gunned down last summer, ahead of Tupac and Biggie, there were no Village Voice tributes or Vibe cover stories. But I bet those kids in New Orleans took pause. Music Free Image Hosting at www.Image.us seagram records ceo uncle octavius with lil seag and sean Here we have a compilation of the best of Seagz unreleased material recorded prior to his assassination. Before that he had released 2 other LP's, The Dark Roads in 92 and Reality Check in 94. TDR stands alone as a masterpiece of hard but intelligent gangsta realism. Personally I think most of RC's lyrics are in the right place but the production went from the raw kult thuggish vibe of TDR to that laid-back west coast style diminishing much of the impact it could have had. The result of Souls On Ice resembles RC kicked up a few notches, a little more hardcore, a much more solid album. 'Gotta Stay Down' is one of my personal faves. As usual Seag is amazing! 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful: Soul Of Seagram, July 24, 2005 Reviewer: Carltouis Stevenson (Angeles Mesa, Los Angeles) - See all my reviews East Oakland, California's own, Seagram's last album before his death, Souls On Ice. To start this lp off about drug distribution and gangster tales with "Sleepin In My Nikes" featuring Scarface and "Slingin The Yea". "Flinstones" about the cartoon charaters is a good song with imagination, but could have been better without the bridges / hooks. The slow banging drums with a live guitar lick "One 2 The Two" is a good display of Seag's Mob stories. "Gotta Stay Down" is another spotlight with a hint of insightful lyrics like "...the only way to come up is you gotta stay down..." This album has a lot of good instrumentation with a West Coast mentality. Was this review helpful to you? Was this review helpful to you? (Report this) 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful: Seagram was deepest rapper and realest rapper there was, March 12, 2004 Reviewer: B. Law (Bay Area California) - See all my reviews I listen to this cd every day of my life and I feel compelled to write a review for this album. I was reading the review by misterme ( january 2004 ) and its like his opinion of Seagram and this album was spoken from my own words. In my heart I believe Seagram was the deepest rapper to ever grace the mic. His words get deep into your bones , he moves you. It really sickens me to hear that 2pac was the deepest and Biggie Smalls was the greatest rapper ever, people you must dig much deeper than that. First of all if you are from or familiar with Oakland, California you will know that Seagram came up in the notorious 69 Ville housing projects and with Darryl Reed and Tim Bluitt these brothas ran a drug dealing operation that would make A-Z, Rich Porter, and Alpo from Harlem( you know the based on a true story movie Paid In Full with Cameron ) look like Welfare recipiants. This man Seagram puts his experiences, his life, and especially his pain, and the situations that unfold when you are too deep in this street life and made it an artform. This man and his passion for his craft were no joke. You feel his anger, his pain, and his knowledge of the game with every word he speaks. I admit his beats for the most part are not on the level of his rhymes but they are solid, but were 2pac's before he got with Suge. When I hear rappers rappin about all the dope they sell or how they turf controllin the streets need to stop lying, but when Seag' tells you about the streets he comes from and his experiences please believe you are listening to the million dollar dope game put on wax without dry snitchin on his peers in its REALEST form. Getting directly to the album Souls on Ice in my opinion every song is good mainly for the lyrical content. The best songs in my opinion are Sleepin in My Nikes and Gotta Stay Down and I recommend this song to anyone from Oakland to New York who's from a turf where there is a small war going on for control of the drug market and the large amounts of money that comes with it and anyone who feels no hope witnessing the deaths of their peers and the need for vengence that takes place. Seage's greatest asset is that he captures all the pain that comes with trying to survive and get paid when you are living the street life. Unfortunately Seagram died a violent death in the late summer of 1996 when he and a friend were fired upon by an unknown assasin. Seages partna was shot in the head and just as real as his rhymes Seage suffered a majority of his fatal wounds shielding his partna from further damage. RIP Seagram Miller the realest and greatest rapper you never heard of. 1970-1996 tried to write a long, deep review on why I enjoy this album so much, but in the end, I couldn't find the words... Seagram, in my mind, was the greatest, for the same reasons 2pac also was; deep, heartfelt, realness, and a real passion for his music. What he said, you could feel it, plus he could flow like muthaf***a. He also has great song-writing ability, when it came to knowing what would sound good with what, hooks, etc. The beats on this are also some the finest I've heard, and really demonstrate how versatile and diverse mobb music can be, Oakland-style. Anyone who says they ain't so dope, needs to take a second listen. Terry-T did most of them, Tone Capone did two-two of his best, as far as I'm concerned (Gotta Stay Down is probably my favorite track of all), and one of Rap-A-Lot's producers did one- can't remember wich producer it was... It's a cool beat, the first track, that features Scarface. Wich brings me to... featurings. Seagram came from an era where you rarely had more than 3 or 4 guest rappers on their album, meaning that 1)the album is personal, and really lets the rapper shine his best and touch personal topics, and 2)every featuring mattered. We have three here, and they ain't just any three random rappers: Scarface as I mentioned before, Spice 1, and Yukmouth! And they're all at their best here... And like a lot of bay area albums that came out from the early to the mid 90s, you won't have to skip one single track. Everything is consistent and solid, and the album is just long enough so you want to listen to it again when it's finished, rather than get tired of it halfway through because there's 12 more tracks coming and most of them are filler... To sum it up exactly... This is how I feel an album is supposed to be done. No one is as underrated as Seag was, R.I.P. Check out his two previous albums too, both classics... Search Customer Reviews SEAG's best album.....maybe even Rap-A-Lot Record's best album , October 6, 2005 Reviewer: David J. Januszewski - "Reality Check" is a Bay Area classic from 1994. I found that Seagram was becoming a better rapper as his career progressed. He was much better on this album than he was on the "Dark Roads" which was released in 1992. The beats are also alot better. I sold this CD on eBay, and now I think that I want to buy it again. I have a burned copy of this, but CD-R's suck in sound quality. The best songs are Gangsta Livin, Eastside and No Matter the Cost. My favourite song on this album has to be Gangsta livin, I was amazed when I first heard it. This CD is worth alot of money because it is rare, and it is damn good, so it will probably go up even higher in price in the future. Khan "KILLA DYNAMIX" (LONDON, ENGLAND) - See all my reviews Seagrams rhymes had a feel to them, they showed up above alot of other rappers. It's like the people that know, know when someone is trying to impress on tracks about sh..t they ain't really doing, but some other people fall for it. And the people that know are normally up on things too because they know when it's realness that someone is rapping. And thats what Seagram was doing, rapping real. He knew what his limits were about saying things on records and a lot of people can relate to that because they are in the same game, it takes one to know one. His beats were heavy and he always gave his whole in his lyrics because he is far from fake. He never changed his style and made things worse without cause like tupac after joining deathrow. He had true heart and was someone who was deep in the real drugs game, thats why he never talked the wrong sh..t. Sadly he got murdered which too is something that comes with how deep you get. Anyways, get this album because it's tight and real. Image Hosted by Image.us seagram video if the world was mines HIP HOP DAILY NEWS OAKLAND RAPPER SEAGRAM in 1996 the Bay Area was greeted with a bit of sad news as one of its most talented hip hop soldiers lost his life. Oakland rapper Seagram Miller was shot to death in a hail of bullets in the early hours of the morning. Seagram was best known in these parts for his classic song The Ville which gave spoke about his notorious neighborhood East Oakland's 69 Ville housing projects.. Seagram went on to make some noise on a national level when signed to Rap A Lot records and he dropped what is considered a classic Bay Area lp entitled Reality Check. Seagram had firmly established himself as an OG not just within the Bay Area hip hop scene but also on Oakland's vicious East Side streets. He broke the stereotypes on both levels. As a street OG, Seagram was well liked and well respected. He also made no bones about his willingness to step up and be responsible father. He is known as one who took care of family despite having several off spring from different women. So strong was that commitment that on the Reality Check lp he flipped the script and did a heartfelt song called Birth. Seagram was one of those guys who on the surface seemed to be a well spoken and nice guy who remembered your name and would exchange pleasantries with you.. If there was an evil flipside to him.. I never saw it in my personal encounters. As an artist Seagram broke the mold attached to 'gangsta/ street rappers'. Seagram definitely had material that chronicled his life on the streets..but at the same time he was considered one of the best free stylers around.. There had been more then a few shows and more then a few radio interviews where Seagram had come and firmly wrecked shop. The one incident that stood out most for many involved within the Bay Area hip hop scene occurred when him and Houston rapper Mike G bum rushed a show at SF's DNA Lounge. They weren't scheduled to appear, but Seagram showed up with a dat in hand and made it clear that he wanted to do a five minute set. His request was granted as he and Mike hit the stage to do what wound up being the best performance of the night. The circumstances surrounding Seagram's death aren't too clear. Apparently Seagram was in an area known as the Twamps. when an unknown gunman emerged from the darkness and shot at Seagram's partner Gangsta P... Seagram tried to shield P and wound up taken the bullets that mortally wounded him. Gangsta P was taken to the hospital in serious condition. The funeral for Seagram was held in 1996 and literally thousands showed up to pay their respects. Seagram's death became yet another chapter in what is becoming an unfortunate Bay Area legacy.. There have been one too many rappers who have been jailed, shot or killed over the past few years... Some of the few tragedies befelling Bay Area artists this year include... Mac Mall's dj ...DJ Cee of Vallejo was shot to death, Mr. Cee of SF's RBL Posse was shot and killed New Year's eve, Vallejo's Young Lay had his baby kidnapped and his girlfriend burnt to death..[the bay is still missing], Rappin' 4Tay was jailed earlier this year for parole violations, Pooh-Man was sentenced to serve 36 months at San Quentin late last year. It's been hard for many of the Bay Area's artists to escape their past lives out on the streets... Hopefully things will substantially improve. written by Davey D August 11 1996 seagram loved oakland and he died in oakland he had major love and he gave major love to the town a rap pioneer the first rapper to bridge the west and the south together he was before his time and his music is timeless thunderous bass lines and rythm that of true bay fashion heavy bass live drums guitar licks old school gangsta mobb music seag was in a leauge all his own and will never be forgotten scheduled releases are coming in 2006 seagram greatest hits-may 2006 mack gods-june 2006 boss of the bay-oct-2006 mackgods 2 dec-2006 seagavilli-dec 2006 seag the final chapter-2007 bay area legends-2007 living in squaller-2007 to pre order seagramrecords@yahoo.com octaviusmiller@yahoo.com nextlevelpromo_llc@yahoo.com Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Double Trouble had a hit that same year titled “Street Tuff.” MC Rock, rapper with The Almighty RSO, was stabbed to death in 1990 at roughly age 28. Trouble T-Roy (Troy Dixon), rapper with Heavy D and the Boyz, fell off a balcony after a concert in 1990 at age 22. A few days before her own death, Lisa had hit and killed a 10-year-old boy with her car in Honduras. Jam Master Jay, rapper with the popular group Run-DMC, was shot to death in his recording studio in October 2002 at age 37 by an unknown assailant. This is the latest in a long string of violence associated with rappers, who produce a style of music that is infamously violent in nature (though Jam Master Jay himself was more positive than most). In November 2003, Anthony “Wolf” Jones,” 38-year-old former bodyguard for “P. Diddy” Combs, was shot to death in a gunfight outside an Atlanta nightclub. $7,000 was found on Jones’ body. Jones and Combs had been acquitted of gun possession and bribery charges stemming from a 1999 shooting inside a New York nightclub. In December 2003, federal prosecutor Jonathan Luna was gunned down during the trial of rapper Deon Lionnel Smith, who was accused of running a violent drug ring.
