Calcutta Grove is what became of Eden, just as Revelations is where you are certain to hear a dog sharing secrets with a cat. We have all been buried alive and salvo is the testimony of dirt falling onto a coffin lid, while The Killing Floor is where life is bought and sold. We remain lost until our nightmares turn upon us like serpants sucking their own tails. I hold on because there is nothing else beyond the concept of irony. Freedom is just another word for being and the wife of the river merchant waits in translation. Tom the banker raises his hat in greeting and farewell.
I cannot abide trees that have been cut back and given arms that resemble the tarred stumps remaindered from the war between North and South, neither the manner which clouds fray, like soiled pennants, over and above everything. If I sound like anything it is the silence that deepens after the door to the soul has been closed.
Sounds Like
The musicians I admire have all set themselves against the way things are: Tom Waits, JJ Cale, and John Martyn; Skip James, Marvin Gaye, and James Brown; Gillian Welch, Cat Power, and Mary Gauthier; Rainer Ptacek, Tinariwen, and Stevie Ray Vaughan; Neil Young, Calexico, and Iron & Wine
My name is Sean Taylor and I’m a singer songwriter who lives in Kilburn, north London. ‘Calcutta Grove’ is the third completed piece of work I’ve recorded. I’ve had spectacular reviews in publications as diverse as ‘Uncut’, ‘Classic Rock’, ‘Maverick’, ‘Blues Matters’, ‘Americana UK’, ‘Net Rhythms’, ‘Blues In Britain’, ‘Rock N’ Reel’, ‘Folk Radio UK’ and ‘Classical Guitar World’. I have been reviewed in the US, Germany, Australia, Canada, France, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Netherlands and Eire to name a few.
I’ve been compared to John Martyn, Tom Waits and Bob Dylan.
Over the past year I’ve played at a score of festivals, including the Acoustic Stage at Glastonbury where I performed to three thousand people and sold out of cd’s, the same thing happened at Blue Balls in Lucerne (Switzerland), Acoustic Festival of Britain, Bloom Festival, Tolpuddle Martyrs, Tenby Blues and Broadstairs Folk Week. I’ve done headline gigs across the UK, toured Switzerland and played support slots for the Neville Brothers, John Fogerty, George Benson, Band of Horses, Big Joe Turner, Otis Grand, The Groundhogs and Chickenshack. I have shows booked into 2010 touring The Netherlands, Germany, Eire & Belgium. I’ve also played a dozen gigs as part of ‘Love Music Hate Racism’. Wherever I’ve played I’ve been asked back
I have also had radio play on various stations including the Bob Harris (BBC Radio 2) & Tom Robinson (BBC 6 Music) shows and played live sessions on House of Mercy and Raven N Blues shows.
