Entertaining, playful, intelligent and charismatic, Seany B is carving up the country with his new single, B Good 2 Me.
Whilst best known for providing the bassy vocals and spicy lyrics for TV Rock’s contagious hit Flaunt It, which topped the ARIA charts for 5 weeks and went on to scoop two ARIA awards for Best Dance Single as well as Highest Selling Single at last years awards, Seany B is no newcomer to the dance scene. In addition to providing no less than three rockin’ tunes on the acclaimed TV Rock album Sunshine City, including the neo – ‘90s Hip House Is Back, Seany B had previously created and fronted the wildly popular underground posse Dirty Laundry and was a regular on the club scene.
Over the past 4 years, Seany B has dazzled partygoers with his hip hop, house and electro style, from Perth to the Gold Coast, Darwin to Launceston, playing in excess of over 100 shows a year. As well as establishing a successful solo career as a performer / rapper, the songwriter has now co-produced a solo album and is already gearing up for a year of live shows with a new band and great DJs. Seany B’s first solo single is a recast of an 80s classic for dance floor freaks, hip-hop junkies and post-modern aesthetes alike.
B Good 2 Me was originally recorded by The SOS Band with the sensational production team Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. Norman Cook (Fatboy Slim)'s Beats International then famously tweaked it, dub-style. It's an old club staple for Seany B. "It's such an anthem," he enthuses. "Guys love to hear it sung to them and girls love to sing it – I just love it through and through.”
Crucially, Seany B has updated the song for the 2000s, giving the words and narrative a new "twist". His B Good 2 Me is an exchange between a couple and, as such, strikes a contemporary balance.
"What I wanted to do was make it into a two-way conversation between the two lovers, or potential lovers, in this situation” he says.
"It's like painting yourself into your favourite painting, being able to actually breathe life into it and have a dialogue with this vocal that I've known my whole life."
And Seany B has personalised his beloved disco jam. "As I was writing this story I thought it could very well be interpreted as an appropriate after-thought to the sentiment of Flaunt It.”
"I'm primarily a songwriter, and I love living the tracks that I write, but, at the same time, people have to understand the world is a stage and we play many roles - and that's only one character I invented.
"I wrote [Flaunt It] to give a voice to the DJs”.
B Good 2 Me is a teaser for Seany B's hotly anticipated 2008 album. Seany B describes "a melting pot" of his myriad influences, from vintage funk to ol' and nu skool hip-hop to electronica, with lavish instrumentation.
The Australian-born MC has an unusual background. Seany B's mother is a New York native while his father is Czech. He attended US high schools and has widely travelled.
Because of this pluralistic upbringing, Seany B will never let go of his roots in party culture. "Look, I'm not necessarily trying to change the world with my music. I just really wanna be happy. I want people to enjoy themselves.
"I just love what I do - and I do what I like. I have very strong feelings that govern my life, my lyrics and my music… When other people hear my songs or see me perform I want to make them know what it means to feel alive….then I want them to DANCE!”
His first entry into the official singles chart came together with his writing the lyrics & performing his low-slung vocals for his collaboration with TV Rock, FLAUNT IT. Somewhere between substance and style with a sense of humor and a hint of sarcasm, SeanyB's lyrics mixed with TV Rock's trademark beats proved to form a recipe for monumental success in the clubbing underground... but it didn't stay there for long.
Entering the charts at 3, shooting to 1 with a bullet- smashing through to the top of the Australian Singles Chart for over 5 weeks, Flaunt It has now surpassed double-platinum sales , while it's hooks & catchphrases have become the indispensible lingo of club culture. Spending a record 26 weeks in the Top 10 ARIA SINGLES CHARTS and an unprecedented 63 WEEKS in the ARIA TOP 20 DANCE CHARTS- "FLAUNT IT," has etched it's way into Australian music history, bringing home 2 ARIA Awards in 2006 for Best Dance Single & Highest Selling Australian Single.
Constantly traversing the country, SB rocks dancefloors in all states- Now solo, he continues his formula of performing live with an array of dynamic DJ's across the country, regularly including- Grant Smillie & Ivan Gough (TV Rock), Matt Roberts, Adam Bartas (Orkestrated), Josh Abrahams, The Stafford Bros, Illya and Chardy (Famous)- All dedicated to bringing dancefloors to life with precision, poise and enough tomfoolery to get the party started no matter what the circumstance!
