..Header Banner Made with MyBannerMaker.com! Click here to make your own!.............. .. ..........The best reviewed band in Montreal - ever!.... .. The band actually started out as ''Unknown People'' in September 1993 at College Notre-Dame, playing to fellow students at school events and parties until members individually started receiving praise and offers for something better. A 2-year hiatus helped them get into and kicked out of some of the best-known Montreal bands at that time. Then eveybody was without a band again. A few phone calls later, a decision was made. .. In 1998, the three (remaining) members set sails for New York City. It worked for ''Me Mom & Morgentaler'', why couldn't it work for us, right? Luckily, band leader Sebastian Hell is Irish, and a mighty drinker. A night out at the Limelight Bar helped him befriend (and drink under the table) a man known as much for his own fame than his contacts within the club scene, who got our Montrealers a weekly gig at his bar, paving the way for 1000 fans every Sunday night to enjoy the fresh sound of distorted broken blues riffs from the Great White North. One thing often leading to another, 2 other such gigs were added elsewhere per week, making Hell's boys play to upwards of 3000 people per week! Shortly after that, a contract was signed with Virgin records and life couldn't get any better. .. Then came the review. A prominent weekly alternative newspaper journalist said the band sounded JUST LIKE the ''Jon Spencer Blues Explosion'' ONLY CHEAPER and LESS EXPERIENCED, AND WITHOUT THE SEXY ELVIS-TYPE CHARISMA OF ITS LEAD SINGER. The journalist, who obviously thought it was very funny to massacre a young band in the media also claimed the band was so unoriginal that it ''should change its name to Sebastian Hell Blues Explosion, or Blues Connection, or anything that would make it clear who they're ripping off from''. .. Sensing History in the making (which usually happens when journalists talk too much), the band went with it, changing the spelling so he would not be able to claim full property of what he helped spawn. Thus begins the legend of ''Sebastian Hell/Blooze Konekshun''. That lineup however, apart from Mr. Hell, stayed in NYC, the contract was voided in 2000, but the band lives on today, in Montreal (and Mexico City, and Quebec City, and Ottawa, and at times in NYC as well), with its current bandmembers. Come witness history in the making, as these boys are surely this generation's Pearl Jam or Nirvana or Radiohead or Cure or Who or Cream. ........Thanks For Being A Part Of My World.... -

Influences
EMF and Jane's Addiction. OK, fine, R.E.M., Jim Carroll and Lou Reed. And the Smashing Pumpkins at times. But people mostly compare us to The White Stripes and the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, although they are gravely mistaken. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Seb listens to: Pearl Jam, White Stripes, Renaud, Jim Carroll, Charlotte Martin, The Cure, Nine Inch Nails, The Who, Cream, Tom Waits, Led Zeppelin, Rage Against The Machine, Bob Marley, Elvis Costello, Eric Clapton, Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Frank Zappa, Eminem, Smashing Pumpkins, EMF, Lou Reed and Velvet Underground and lots more. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alex listens to: Renaud, Buena Vista Social Club, Tom Waits, Marc Ribot, Afro-Cuban All-Stars, Loco Locass, Mexican rap, tabla, jazz and lots more. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dan listens to: Nirvana, White Stripes, Interpol and lots more. -
Sounds Like
Lou Reed and R.E.M. not being afraid of Everlast with a touch of Smashing Pumpkins. And the drummer is louder than Dave Grohl. The voice is singular, original, no one is like it (the same can be said of Thom Yorke, Robert Smith, or Billy Corgan). Or just Jim Carroll Band.
