Second Dan is pleased to release its new album, ‘Bringing Down Goliath.” Produced by Andy Baldwin (Morcheeba, Rage Against the Machine), Australian Dan Rosen weaves the lyrical wit of Elvis Costello into the clamor and shout of classic Replacements. Dan Rosen grew up in Melbourne, influenced equally by the Australian garage-rock titans You Am I, as by the lyrics and melodies of Neil Finn and Forster/McLennan of Brisbane’s Go-Betweens .
Prior to his relocation to New York City, revered Australian tastemaker radio station Triple J selected Seconddan in its “Unearthed” program as one of Australia’s most promising new artists. Playing to big crowds at Livid and Big Day Out Festivals in Sydney and Melbourne convinced Dan that bringing his sound to the States was the next inevitable step.
Shorty after his arrival, Dan recruited local guitar ace Adam Wolfe Lerner, and, together with the powerhouse rhythm section of Danny Reisbick on bass and Sonny Ratcliff on drums, formed the new nucleus the Second Dan. Quickly gaining a reputation for its fiery live shows, the band wrote and released its first stateside recording, "Running Out of Feelings.” “Bringing Down Goliath” is Second Dan’s first full-length U.S. release.
Leadoff single, “Running Out of Feelings”, filters the bounce and pure pop through the drive of Supergrass, and has received substantial airplay on college and independent radio stations nationwide. “Run v. Hide” wouldn’t be out of place alongside Radiohead’s “The Bends”, and “The Elephant Fell To Earth” reminds of the best of mid-period Kinks.
The songs have garnered the band attention of MTV with the singles “Running Out of Feelings” and “Forget to Remember” appearing on the hit MTV shows “The Hills” and “Life of Ryan”.
On the stage is where Second Dan truly shines. Whether playing in an acoustic setting at frequent raucous showcases at the Lower East Side’s Rockwood Music Hall, or plugging in and blasting their loyal audience at sold-out shows at the Mercury Lounge, this band never disappoints. It’s no surprise why Second Dan was chosen to support the Lemonheads at its recent gigs at New York’s Bowery Ballroom.
